Merrywood Diamond Recurve String Length??
« on: May 26, 2007, 12:48:00 AM »
Hey guys,

I am trying to help someone figure out the correct string length for their bow. I have not seen the bow, but I do know that it does have the poundage and S.L. 47 3/4" written on it. When the owner measures the bow, he got 46 3/4", but he probably didn't flow with the limb curve creating the one inch difference.

This is an older bow, probably 35 years or so. Would the 4" shorter standard be correct with a recurve this old, and what does S.L. stand for? It can't be string length, because the AMO length is either 46.75 or 47.75.

He does not have the orginal string, so he can't measure it.

Yes, the S.L on a Merrywood bow is the string length.  They didn't use the AMO length stuff back then, that came later.  I still have my two 68" Merrywood Diamond bows, and they still shoot well. The SL on the bow is pretty accurate for string length, use DACRON only!  I use 12 strands on my 34# bows. My bows are from 1965-66 Bill G.
