I've finally had my first traditional archery harvest (mature doe) on election day at 555pm, yes I voted earlier in the day. I was in a nature GROUND blind (kind of)!!! I was sitting in a nature ground blind and the wind kept shifting, mainly blowing blowing on my back. About 4pm I decide to move about 25yards to the base of tree large enough to cover my back. I cleared out the leaves and settled in, the wind was now in my face. 550pm the wood came alive, saw deer moving 30yards to my left and in front of me but headed away. Next four does headed towards me following a trail 12 yards to my left. Like on a string, 1st one trotts by, 2nd walks by and the thrid stops in my shooting lane. I let the arrow sail, heard the "thump", the hit was a little back and high. I settle in to wait awhile. Two minutes later a large body buck with a heavy rack (eight pointer) follows the same trail. Hope to see him next week.
I recoverd the doe about 80 yards away. I was shooting a Leon Stewart Slammer Special 49@28", Gold Tip arrow, with Magnus Stinder 4 blade 150grain. This is my third season hunting traditional archery only and from the ground.
