Moleskin, Need help or Suggestion
« on: November 05, 2010, 08:32:00 PM »
alright all another question,

The weather has been getting colder and all the sudden i have noticed a rattle around the recurves of my bow.  At first I thought I had big problems but then it occurred to me that the wax was probably stiff and was rattling against the limbs.  Tonight I added some moleskin and the noise went away instantly.  So here is the question.  Where are yall getting your moleskin.  I found some at Wally world and works fine but is ugly as sin.  I really hate to see a big flesh toned band aid on each end of my bow.  Are there any other options out there for the do-it yourselfer.  I am thinking bow hush might be an option but thought there would be something I could craft on my own.

Any drug store should have moleskin, its used for blisters on your feet.

This stuff would probably work:

Greg has it, BOWHUSH is the best thing I've found for my recurves. I do have camo moleskn I got somewhere though, probably the auction site.

velcro x2.... [ the softer of the 2 pieces ]... {stands up to rain better}

Also wrapping about 8" on each end of your string with WOOL yarn is also a great option...I use both of these methods with great success !!!

I strongly advise you go right to the "Bowhush" and skip everything else. It's super effective at what it does and looks great to boot.

Also very tough stuff and will last a long time. In 50+ years I've used every imaginable thing to eliminate limb slap and this is the best.

One other suggestion for sticky string wax, you know the wind powder in the little squirt bottle? Squeeze it, it shows wind direction?  Rub some on your waxed string near the limbs. Instantly quiet, no smell, nothing to add to your limbs. .
