A little help from my friends (pic)
« on: November 06, 2010, 07:31:00 AM »

This buck is driveing me nuts. Have 27 pics of him. I have had him at 30 - 35 yds three times (to far for me to shoot) He has been at 20yds walking straight at me. Untill he sees a doe off to his right. (no shot again) Then last night him and three does are walking right at me crossing my food plot. When they are about 50yds away my  wheel bow neighbor sees him in my food plot. Starts hammering horns together. To try and call him off the food plot. This action sends all the deer right back where they came from. At a high rate of speed. I don't know if they will ever be back. Never the less. Kill or no kill this is one of the most exciteing seasons I have had in years. Have watched him make scrapes, tend does, and kick the crap out of a 150" 10 pointer. AS THEY SAY IT DON'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT. But just one broad side shot at 20yds or less could make it even better. Thanks for letting me vent guys & gals. Let me know your thoughts on my neighbors actions. I have mixed thoughts to say the lest.

I certainly hope I would never try to call one off someone elses food plot - at least if there was even a chance that they were hunting at the same time. Guess your neighbor either couldn't resist the urge or just doesn't care about others - you'd probably know his type better than us, is he only weak-willed or just plain inconsiderate -    :D   LOL

I hate to say that I'm afraid I would have been pretty darned upset, were I in your place.

I know what you are talking about.I have a big 8 point on our property that i have been after for 2 years and i get trail cam pic's almost every day of him.I have seen him 2 times this season so far.The only shot i had at him was the first day of the early doe season when we can't shoot buck yet,He walked past my blind at 4 yards. It's ok to vent.I think big bucks like that make hunters do things they should not do.Here in S.E.PA we have people shooting big bucks in their back yards at nite with bows and people tresspassing on private land just to shoot a big buck they have seen.I think your neighbors actions were not cool at all,I guess he want's to shoot a big buck so bad he will do that kind of thing.

What a deer.  Good luck on him.  He is sure a mature buck.

Believe me I feel your pain brother.

On the neighbor, I don't see where he did anything I wouldn't have done in his shoes. With that said I would let him know he messed you up (in a polite way). He may not be as eager to do it next time if your relationship is good. Neighbor wars are never a good thing. I would definitely plant something along that border to block his view though...All's fair in love and deer hunting.

Persistance will overcome almost anything else.  Stay after him.  You're doing something right to have that many close calls.

I have been reminded again this year how many things have to "go right" to kill a good buck with a traditional bow.

TJ said about what I was thinking.  The deer are wild and wonder all over.  I don't figure they are mine.  I would say your food plot is a tactic to bring the deer off of other property and onto yours.  So what is the difference between food plots and calling?  I call and rattle off and on.  I have no idea where a deer could come from and don’t care.  We also have 8 rows of pines planted around two sides of our farm to keep the fence hunters hunting as little of our land as possible.  It works well.
