Cast??? Not fishing, well perhaps for some comment

It seems to me that way back in the dark ages (1960's or so) we talked alot about cast of an arrow. Now we seem to be all caught up in FOC etc.
Cast then, was the ability of a bow to shoot an arrow over a distance with little drop and positive impact (as I remember). Cast to the truely dark ages English Long Bowman was the ability to shoot a heavy war arrow over elevated distance (I think).
Is this still not what we as traditional archers desire?

I think we moved on to "the up close and personal shot" at an animal.
Some may still shoot the distance.

Yea, I know this implys distance but even so... cast would seem to count out to 30 or so.
I suspect we are doing this with our heavy (sic.)FOC etc arrows.
Since I am an ole Jersey guy (Bergen Co)... How is it back there?

Hey Bruce...that is how i compare my bows. Do they "cast" the arrow the same from 25 yards and in? Maybe that's the wrong term to use, but that works for me.

Jersey is still the same Fish and game collect money and don't put it back in the environment. The new thing is paying for an extra buck stub in the Permit bow and muzzle season. We used to get the buck for free. That and the loss of land due to developments,in a nut shell it sucks still.

Randy.. Yep
Jon2.. Yea same ole, same ole. I would like to get back there and hunt that little area up around Rockleigh as a control hunt. My buds that still live in Norwood and Northvale say there are some "big" deer in there. Hell to get a permit from what I hear.

I now refer to my fishing/hunting trips as "cast and cast" trips rather than "cast and blast" trips. :D
