back after 3+ years
« on: November 10, 2010, 10:15:00 PM »
it's been 3+ years since i last posted here. it's also been 3+ since i've hunted because of health issues. i am happy to say that i am again hunting. i can no longer do the tree stands so i ordered a double bull darkhorse recurve blind. it came today. i was understandably excited to try it out. it was too dark set it up outside. i wasn't concerned with the lack of light so much. it was the bear traps that my dog had set. i watched the setup video a few times and attempted to open it up in the dining room. it is not as easy as the video shows. after wrestling with it for a while and going back and forth to the video to see what i had missed, i finally was able to pop the first wall up. i think the fabric is a little tight when new. the next step involves crossing the hubs and lifting the blind over your head then popping the roof into place. stupid ceiling fan, i never liked it anyway. i guess i'll practice setting it up and taking it down in the yard tomorrow. i'll see how i do on saturday when i finally get back out.

Welcome back, and let that blind sit in the yard a few days and get that manufacturing smell out of it.

Glad you are back.

The DB is a great blind. Setting them up will normally become secondary with experience. Keep in mind if you are having to force it then something in the set-up process or the folded blind position is incorrect. Don't force the blind open or you may end up with problems. They are made to set-up in short order and with practise you will get there. You don't want to be trying to set the blind up in the dark w/o being quite familar with the set-up process.

I have had three since the early 90's and all have proven to have been quite reliable.

thanks everyone. i wrestled with the DB for a long time. finally i called 3rivers archery and talked to shawn. he said he had the same trouble the first time he set his DB up. what i ended up doing was popping the first wall up like the video said. then after trying many times to pop the ceiling out, i gave up and tried what shawn suggested. he said it didn't matter what sequence you follow. so after several attempts i popped out a second wall. after that it was easy to get the other two walls and then the ceiling. two walls kept collapsing but i just tightened up the tension strap and that took care of that. i'll leave it set up over night and tomorrow i'll practice set up and take down.

Welcome back.

I think the key to setting up the blind is two-fold, 1.) open up any wall then 2) grab the center hub and push up.  It will expand around you like magic.

And have fun.

lt-m-grow. there was no magic at all with this blind. the first wall was not the problem. the 2nd step which is the ceiling was the problem. it was not happening at all like the video showed. no matter what i did, that ceiling hub was not going to pop into place. thats why i gave up and called 3rivers. i ended up opening the walls first. that was difficult too. the ceiling was last. hopefully things will loosen up over time.
