State Land Results
« on: November 19, 2010, 09:09:00 PM »
I am interested in not only deer shot but  deer seen in specifically state or wmu tracts of land. I hunt big parcels of forest only land in upstate NY and it is a challenge just to see the deer. This year i was less  dedicated than most with 2 girls in soccer and a boy in football. I only saw about 10 doe and 1 buck with no shots. if you have shot a deer please let me know the outfit (recurve/longbow+ weight, arrow type, broad-head and  finished arrow weight) Thank you in advance,
Stacy

I spent a good deal of time on State Land this year, about 45% of my time out. On State land I saw no deer and very little sign of deer. With 75 hours in total I have seen 10 deer all on private land. I hunted Albany Co.,Montgomery Co., Fulton Co., and Hamilton Co.

I hunted the local spot once, looking for a doe. Stalked up to about twenty yards of a basket six. No buck tag unless I was in a bow only area. This section is loaded with deer...atleast until the lead starts flying.

I only get to hunt NY State Land downstate and while I may not see the numbers as fellow private land hunters I know, the ten pointer I saw at Stewart was tremendous.
Most of my hunting is on State land on Long Island and I would give it a grade of C. The DEC really doesn't seem to have much interest in improving the hunting only to make more regulations.

I hunt 95% state land! I love it, in the late season you will not see a soul for a week!! This year is slower, but they are still their. You just have to work to find your deer on state land!

When I was 15 I killed this guy on a finger ridge in one of the biggest state forest's in Maryland. We hunt Savage river state forest as much as we can, but it is about an hour and 30 mins away!

Then last year I found this big guy, didn't get a shot on him though. I stalked within 40 yards and got busted.

He was only about 80 yards away when I was filming him but he was probably 50 meters down in elevation. The Appalachian mountains contain some of the roughest terrain that there is!

Last of the Breed Pm me for info, or when you are in the area give a call 315-952-1878. Camden is about a half hour north of me. I know a lot of beautiful country in the Brookfield area.Crotch Horn if you are out there please chime in (he hunts a lot of north country) Chris great pics, yes there are deer out there and you have to dig in to get them. Most days i am alone on a couple of thousand of acres, no car noise , no chain saws just great country. BUT... if the deer decide to walk 75 yrds to in another direction you will never see them. No crop field here, not m,ant natural funnels either!

I hunt a huge tract of public land, I sit the ground. I have been out about 8 times maybe 10, I have seen about 10 or 12 deer all together. I have scored a deuce from one of my ground blinds early in the season. Then didn't see much for a while. Have recently started seeing deer again hunting a different part of the mountain. I hunt with a 70" yew longbow 55#@28". Shooting a 30" AD Hammerhead with 100 gr brass insert and a 256 gr Tusker single bevel BH total arrow weight 775 gr.
I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

Glad to see your around Stace. Yes, plenty of state land to hunt in & around Oneida county. State land can be good or bad depending. The area U showed you last year had zero sign this year. Did not see a deer there. Hunted more on private land this year than ever before. My brother got a doe with the gun today there. I passed on the does I saw. Lots of places though. If you do move here contact Stacy or me and I am sure we can point you in a good direction. My # is 315 790 1264. I work nights so leave a message & I will get back to you.
Dan
