I decided to switch to carbon arrows for everything except deer and small game. So I purchased a half dozen each of the Arrow Dynamics shafts to make myself a 'test-kit' that will cover any wt bow I may get, from ~40# on up. I could've bought nearly 200 POC shafts for that much $$! Crazy??  :confused:    :D

Without those 200 POC's cluttering up the place you have more room to store those different weight bows you're gonna get to match the AD's!  Sounds rational to me....  :D

Not saying your crazy, but I'm wondering why you would do that?  I went full circle from wood as a kid to aluminum in my teens and then carbons in my 20's and early 30's, and now I'm back to making my own wood shafts.  I got away from the basics for a while, but I realized that all I was doing was buying into the hunting shows/infomercials on TV.  The indians did quite well with their shafts, and now with the advancement in technology, the wood is better and straighter, and I believe stronger (atleast some are), so why change what works and give Corporations more money?

Hmmmmm.  If target archery is practice for hunting, why shoot anything but what you hunt with?

I had a brief stint with aluminum (two years in the early 80's) and sold them along with the compound that I bought them for.  I don't see carbon in my future until it costs less than wood.  I use cedar for the same reason my deer rifle is a flintlock.  The hunt is more important than the kill.  ;-)

Practice and get good with your hunting equiptment.  If I am going to be extremely proficient with a setup, I would like it to be a hunting setup.  Foam don't care if you just wound it.

I agree with the proficiency statement, and with the idea that it should be a hunting set-up. I just can't seem to limit myself to just one bow...just as I couldn't (with a w) limit myself to just one rifle, when I rifle hunted...just as I won't limit myself to just one SxS shotgun for bird hunting!

Maybe I haven't seen quality POC that cheap for a long time,I mean for 200 other them.Last time I looked a 100 probably cost twice what a dozen AD's cost.The durability of carbons make up for their cost and the tapered AD's have the abilty to cover a fairly wide range of bow eights.

The POC shafts I have are about 15 years old and are individually weighed & spined...easy to straighten. Its fairly easy to get a matched dozen, but I only have a couple of different spines and the bow Sixby is building for me will be too heavy for what I have. I like to experiment and tinker, so the carbons seemed like a good choice, plus the fact that I want an EFOC setup for ~900 grain arrow...hard to do with cedar!

Could have saved ya some time...

Just get 1/2 doz trad Lites and a 1/2 doz yellow Nitro stingers. (provided you are shooting from 45-60#)

The trads will give ya more weight and shoot out of 45# to almost 60# stuff with just a bit of adjustment.

The Stingers will sizzle out of 45-50# stuff with a 145 BH and a steel adaptor. (you can use the long alu adaptor but that could be a bit light)  Your FOC will be great and with sharp BH's at 20 or so yards there should be a hole on both sides.  If ya want more ya can add some stuff to em also.  They are a zip to tune.  If ya want cedar smell I can turn ya on to an herbalist who can send ya some cedar oil to put on em.... LOL

Yes, I shot wood and alu.  I still shoot wood a bit because I like to build em and make em fancy but the AD's are killin machines.

News Flash:: In a real Pis_ _ _ match a friend and I shot his alum. and my homemade sitca spruce thru a crono. The alum. was 30 grans lighter. The wood was 5fps faster at 30 grans more. Dont care about speed, just want to hit where I look. SLINGING WOOD

Shoot carbon for everything.  They dont warp, they all spine close to each other, they all weigh the same, they are tougher. The list of positives is long.  I love wood arrows, I just don't love the constant checking and straightening that comes with the nostalgia of using them

A good suggestion was given to me re: carbon arrows. Get some cedar oil and put a drop on each shaft!    

I'll always have some woodies around ('cuz I bought a BUNCH of shafts many moons ago) for deer hunting and stumping and small game...and because I love putting them together, but I get tired of them breaking! The only thing good about a broken POC arrow is its aroma.
