Broadhead Addiction!!
« on: November 27, 2010, 11:59:00 AM »
Unlike many on this site I have avoided the bow  addiction although I own a few different bows I am happy as could be to keep shooting my Hills.

Unfortunately when it comes to broadheads I cannot settle down. I started in the 1980's with various Zwickeys. I later switched to the 160 & 190 Ribteks several years ago and never looked back, that is until the supply dried up. Since then I am buying a 6 pack of this or that about every chance I get. My list includes over 10 different broadheads and now I am resisting the urge (after all the kill photos) to throw some of the grandkids college fund at the Simmons heads.

I an not sure why I keep doing this. I don't get into the broadhead arguments, believing that regardless of the head, sharp and in the right place is far greater in the dead critter equation. Anyone else able to identify the cause of this curse.

BTW which glue on Simmons for Elk.    ;)

I feel your pain, brother!  I too, love to try out different broadheads.  Why just this year I killed one deer with a Woodsman, another with an Ace Standard and the last one with a Bear Razorhead.  Right now in my quiver I have Zwickey 4-blade Eskimos, Magnus II 2-blades, and  Ace Standards.  What ever the cause of this curse is.... don't worry about it!  Just enjoy it!  After all, what flies better and sharpens easier than a Woodsman?  What broadhead is built more like a tank than an Ace?  Is there is a better all-round broadhead than a Zwickey 4-blade Eskimo?  Nothing else says "deer season" better than clicking in the bleeder blade on a Bear Razorhead.  Why limit yourself?  There are some great broadheads being made right now.  Go get 'ya some and make some memories!!!!

I have the same problem as you. I only shoot one bow at a time but I like to try broadheads of all sorts. If a broadhead is on sale I buy them. Some for small game/varmit reasoning and some for "sceince experiments",some just because. I think I have 8 to 10 types(60 heads+) on hand and have tried even more.

Maybe I am boring, but a Zwicky 4 blade Delta and a 67# Robertson Mystical is all I need.  Nothing else.  I have tried alot of broadheads and bows and have found my favorite combo.  I do have one other bow, another Robertson that squirts out Razorcaps instead of Zwickys, but it has dust on it.   :dunno:

I get the same way. So far I have kills with Snuffer and Muzzy Phantom broadheads. I just sharpened up some simmons for Mondays rifle season opener.

BABH, I too thought that 4 bld Zwickey Delta was the answer... but then this harlot of a little  broadhead called a STOS fluttered its shiny edge at me and off I went again.

I feel the same way. Perhaps it is because we know that no matter what bow or arrow we use, shot from the ground or a tree, it is the BROADHEAD that does the job.

One of the best made broadheads made of best quality materials is the ABowyer.. They are pricy but after nearly 40 years of trying many different heads I've not found any other that is it's equal.. They are tough, accurate and take an exquisite edge!

I bought some of the factory sample Silver Flames from AK Bowhunter Supply last month-- 3 each 100 and 150 grains.  They are a superb looking 2-blade broadhead!  I have't hunted with them yet but I might put one in the quiver with my Helix this week.  The 150's are for next season as I up the weight of my arrow.
