I have shot several carp with a 45# recurve and it worked good.  Go to Muzzy bowfishing to see a selection of different fish arrows.  Joseph

A wood shaft (ramin or laminated birch)will work fine on surfacing fish. You will need the heavier glass for deeper fish however.

I used to shoot fish with a 30# bow when I was a kid (long time ago).  Got some pretty big carp with it too.

I have killed ALOT of carp (and gar, buffalo, shad, etc.) with my 45# Bear Black Bear Hunter...I personally think that is about the perfect draw weight.  I can shoot it all day or night and coupled with a nice, heavy Muzzy tipped fiberglass arrow, penetration is not a problem.  As a matter of fact, I blow through alot of fish with my setup.

there are some carbon fishing arrows out there. I made up some aluminum for my daughter out of 2018's the other day for her to shoot at 33lb and they done just fine and didnt slow her low poundage down at all.

I think if you are shooting in deep clear water 45lbs will not be enought to penetrate big carp, but IF YOUR SHOOTING SAY, COUPLE OF FEET IT SHOULD BE FINE. I've been wrong before.JONESY

mainly just use a REALLY sharp point and youll do fine...
and GET RID OF THE 808!!!!!  get a AMS reel, youll be AMAZED at how many more fish you get!!

I used a Bear Kodiak Mag at 45 pounds for several years. It did fine. Frank
