help me increase arrow weight

I am currently shooting a full length gold tip traditional shafts 35/55 with regular insert and (3) 5" feathers and a 125 grain point. I would like to increase my weight in my arrows. Right now my arrows only way 436 grains. I would like to be around 550-600 grains. What are my options? I like my gold tips, but I also would like to try a skinnier carbon arrow like the axis or the full metal jackets. Help please

A 100 grain  brass insert and 150 grain point would put you at about 550.They may still fly good for you in spite of the additional weight weakening the spine.May even fly better possibly?Tuning will tell you the story

If your inserts are hot melt glued in its and easy fix.I would give it a try and see what happens.About 15$ is all it would cost you for the points and inserts for a dozen arrows.

If they work well buy some 150 grain stingers and your good to go more than likely.

I saw you shoot the 125 grain stingers.

I add brass inserts front and rear to Gold Tips.  I also shoot the traditional wraped ones, they are heavier.

I draw 47lbs at 28 inch draw and my bow is a LHA recurve

If your spine is right now then adding brass will change that. I add nylon rope and get about 90 grains more. It's very quiet and cheap too. The rope also packs down in the front of the arrow improving you FOC. No polyrope as it's not heavy.

29" beman 500 ics bowhunter + 100 grain brass insert + feathers + nock = 355 grains.  100gr steel adapter + 125 grain broadhead/field point/judo = 580 grains total arrow weight.  

change the adapter weight (steel or alum) to suit.  the results will be a very effective killing stick.

i use this same arrow out of my 55 pound r/d longbow with no "spine issues", and it blew through the body of a big ol' hog at about 15 yards (with wensel woodsman head that was Sharp).

but if you feel you need to go stiffer in spine, choose the 400 size shaft.  that's my opinion and ymmv.

Im using the same goldtips in 55/75 with 100 grain brass insert to put me @550gr{the magic Number that I am after}.It is working well for me and I am getting good flight.I have also used the glue in100 grain steel insert into the broadhead and was fine with that as well.I can shoot the same arrow out of all 4 of my different weight bows that vary in weight from 50 to 65#s.That is a beuatiful thing.

The first thing I would do is bareshaft tune to see where you are now with respect to weak versus stiff spine. Adding tip / insert weight will make your arrows act weaker. If they are well tuned now, they won't be if you simply add 150 or so grains up front. Unfortunately, there's just no getting around that.

The good thing is that you have a few extra inched of shaft length to work with, so you can cut them back to make the arrows fly stiffer if needed. As always, proper tuning will tell you the right combination.

I add about 100 gr. to my goldtips by inserting a full length of rope inside.  Does'nt seem to affect spine.  I am no arrow tuning guru, but heavy is good in my book.

Thanks guys I'm gonna get a axis arrow or beeman mfx arrow and try them out with differnt inserts and adapters. I like my stinger broadheads and dont really want to change them. Do i use a brass insert and than screw a 50grain or 100 grain adapter on that, I'm a little confused. I looked for steel adapters before for my 5/16" shafts and couldnt find any. Any help would be appreciated thanks brad

Inserts and adapters are two different things.  Inserts, either aluminum or brass, glue into the shaft and are female threaded for accepting a screw-in broadhead.  Adapters, either aluminum or steel, are for gluing a glue-on point onto so you can use them with carbon or aluminum arrows, they are male threaded on one end and tapered on the other.  There is someone making steel glue in adapters, a combination of the two, but in reality, they make it difficult to change point weight for tuning purposes.

You could go either way, 100 gr. brass insert plus your 125gr. broadhead, or get new glue on 125gr. broadheads and glue them onto a 100gr. steel adapter.  Since you're shooting full length and you want to add weight to the point end, thereby weakening the spine, you've got enough extra arrow to cut them back to stiffen them back up.  Try just adding the brass insert without cutting and see how they fly, if obviously weak, then start trimming the shaft back a little at a time until shooting good again.  Take your time, you don't want to rush and make them too short!

thanks I want to keep my screw in broadheads I have a dozen new stingers and dont want them to go to waste, and plus they have some mojo killed my best buck to date with them. I think I will go with the brass insert route. Can you use the brass inserts in the Axis shafts and the beeman's?

I shoot Axis 500 at 29" with 75 gr brass insert and a 165 gr point it all adds up to 520gr arrow, it shoots great out of both Bob Lee 62'46@28 and my Pronghorn Longbow 62"52@28.

Brass inserts are the way to go.You will notice your bow get quieter and hit harder.

I shoot the same arrows cut to 29" with 125G Woodsman heads. Added 100g brass inserts from 3 Rivers, along with steel BNroadhead adapters and they fly like darts out of my 44-46# bows.
