I'm about stir crazy
« on: December 10, 2010, 02:28:00 PM »
Last Friday, I had a partial Colectomy and can't do anything for the next several weeks.  Can't drive for another week, can't pick up anything over 5 pounds for the next 6-8 weeks and most disturbing is that I can't hunt for the remainder of this year.  That said, I am bored to death and unable to do anything.

Sorry for the venting but I had to get it off my chest.  Thanks for an understanding ear.

What a pain in the arse that must have been.   :goldtooth:

Been there done that. Had a very unusual case of Meniere's disease for 4 1/2 years. Couldn't even hold my newborn son unless someone was close.
Last January I blew the tendon pulleys out in my right hand, had to be reconstructed. 4 months.
I wrote, thought about alot, watched Jerimiah Johnson about 800 times, and really had time to think about life and my options. It may be a good thing, you come up with your best ideas in life when you are unable to do anything else!

You are a funny man...lpcjon2.  I like your humor.  Actually, the doc went in just below the belly button and took out about 6" of the large intestine at the junction of the small intestine.  The arse is no worse for ware.  Just sore and can't do much or sit very long.

As for accompanying the wife for Christmas shopping...no thanks.

God bless.

Hope you get feeling better soon, do some reading ,watch some videos, just try to make the best of it. You'll be back at it soon....    it takes some time!

As hard as it is, but do what they say and don't exert yourself and get your rest. I went to work too soon after my medical stuff and it really set me back for a while....Phil

Build some arrows pal! They weigh about 500-600 grains, I think that under 5 lbs? You could get all fancy with cresting and crown dips. Maybe some leather work?

I'm sorry to hear you've had the reigns pulled tight. I'm glad though they were able to fix what ails you though.

I don't know if you have lots of archery stuff laying around you don't use but if you do.  This past winter I was bored puttering around and I cleaned out some drawers of sights, stabilizers, arrow rests, etc. -- stuff I knew I'd never need again. I put that stuff up on e-bay and made over $2,000.  I put that cash to good work buying custom bows.

The bowl games start soon. Plenty of reading to do here and the other trad forums and there are so many good trad videos you can get to pass the time.  I just ordered the Tradgang video and can't wait for it to get here.  I feel your pain brother. 3 yrs ago I had a 9 hour surgery to put a couple of metal rods in my back and I was off work for 3 1/2 months. I was so glad to get back to work I almost would have done the job for free. Just don't sit around and watch TV all of the time. It can get depressing and it will make you a toad. You're in my prayers for a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear that Douglas, but I'm glad your ok.

I know what surgery through the belly button feels like. I had an imbilical hernia fixed some years ago and I was soooo sore! It hurt to move, it hurt to cough, it hurt to even blink! I feel your pain man.....I really do.

Read.....search the internet.....watch Youtube videos (that sometimes cheers me up) and maybe you could find a new hobbie of some kind? Something you have never tried before?
Do you like to fish? Build some lures, spinnerbaits, buzz baits, pour your own worms. Or learn to build bow strings?
I'd let you come clean my garage, but that would require heavy lifting.  :biglaugh:

Hang in there.

I hope you heal fast.  Just don't overdue and follow Dr. orders.  It will be real boring doing that, but the alternaitve is not worth it.  I go in on Tuesday for a L5S1 fusion front approach.  They go in the same place they did for you.  I will know what that is like soon.  Don't tell me.  I don't want to spoil the surprise.    :scared:    :biglaugh:

We should both be up and around about the same time.  I plan to tack on another 1000 TG posts and start off just hanging with the kids while they are off school for the holidays.  I will not proceed with going crazy until January.    :D

i cant believe no one said get yourself a hunting game. at least you can still puttz around with it.

i just broke my leg in a car accident 4 months ago , and i ended up looking into e-cigarettes , then made my own and got all into that. that took up about 2 months , and the last two , once i was on crutches , i decided to look into making a bow. i checked it out when i was younger , but back then there wasnt much on the internet that i could comprehend as well as i do now. not to mention the only option i thought for wood was paying 100$ for a log to be sent to you .needless to say , bowmaking has made the last 2 months fly by like no other.

just reading 4ests build along top to bottom took me 3 days. i am sure you can lose yourself on here.

and trust me , with an abdominal surgery (had my appendix out a while back) , if you even cough too hard or push too hard pooping , you can blow all that surgery and all that recovery right down the crapper....i remember i coughed once and ended up having to go in and get something fixed inside cause i was peeing blood.

TAKE IT EASY!
