trophyline tree saddle neopreme vs ambush
« on: December 10, 2010, 06:35:00 PM »
Has anyone used both? I'm wanting to get a saddle but I can't decide which one I want.  Here is how I see it.

Neopreme compared to ambush

advantages:

more comfortable (how much?)
Warmer

Disadvantages

Too warm in early season
Holds sent
slightly heavier and more bulky(I doubt it's  enough to matter really)

So because the extra insulation can be both good and bad here in arkansas it comes down to comfort and scent.  I'm by no means a scent freak but I know waders stink with human scent, and I figure if I sweat enough wearing the saddle in october it will probably hold the scent.  However comfort is also very important to me, I like to be in the tree for long periods of time like 4 or 5 hours and if the neopreme is a big advantage there I might give it the nod. What do you think?

Guidos web dude. Hnads down the most comfortable set up ever!

Research it.  Same as tree saddle and tree suit but has a bar that hits the tree allowing total relaxation.  It rocks.  No knee pads needed.

I know about them, it looks too bulky for my taste.  I like to keep things simple, I think the saddle would work better for me

Never sat in the ambush, but I have had neoprean and leather I like the neoprean. The neoprean is hot as crap oct 1 here in arkansas but I have both and yes its hot but take you time and you will be fine. I think it is more confortable than the leather. The bulk and weight is not an issue. As for scent never had a issue.
Thanks

Go do some chores in neoprene waders for as long as you plan to hunt. Then take them off and feel the AIR.

I switched almost exclusively to an ambush saddle this year.  It's a good product but it can get uncomfortable during long sits.  I just bought a Guido's Web last week.  There is no comparison in my opinion.  This is one of the greatest, most thought out stands ever invented.  First off, there's no tie off (the tie off on the saddle can be a real pain).  The comfort level is INCREDIBLE (which leads to far less movement).  I would catch myself having to shift because of cramping.  No knee pads needed (one less thing that you will leave in your truck at o'dark 30 in the morning).  As far as bulk, you can shoot with just as much clearance as the saddle.  Butch is currently running a special on the Guido's Web plus he offers a 30 day no questions return.  Awesome Product, get one....

I have the ambush, I'm all about packability, I cut the upper straps off mine because they aren't needed, I carry a bundle of steps and my saddle in my pack, I can go anywere and do anything. My buddy has the neoprene and it seems when were hunting together that it's real bulky compared to mine. I will agree thet it is a little more comfortable, but I would rather have less bulk and probably scent than comfort.

Butch is the owner/inventor of Guido's Web treestands.  He's running a Christmas special.  Just google guidos web.  The treesaddle can't even compare, trust me.  The quality is phenominal.  And get this, Butch had mine sewn up when ordered.  Mine was made right down there in good old Mississippi the week after i placed my order.  No mass assembling or chinese outsourcing.  If you go to you tube and do a search, you can see the video demo for the product.  Also, i'm not bashing the treesaddle, after using it exclusively this season (along with the Climb Paws), I just think every problem I had with the saddle was eliminated with the web.  For example, the saddle requires you to have to walk to your stand with all of your outerwear on.  With guido's, you can pack your jacket in the back for you trip in.  Just check it out for yourself.

I use the ambush model and LOVE IT!  A buddy of mine bought the neoprene model and he wished he had gotten the ambush.  When the temps are up, the neo-model sweated him real bad!  Can you say diaper rash on a grown-up?  I don't have a problem with the ambush in cold weather.  If you put on enough clothes to be comfortable outside you will have on enough clothes to be comfortable in the ambush.  I have never tried the Guido's Web so I can't say; but, I don't see how it could work any better or be any simpler than the TreeSaddle.

Packability is important for me as well, which is why I shy away from the web.  I doubt the extra bulk of the neopreme in my pack could amount to much but maybe.   So you ambush guys are comfortable hanging in them for hours on end?

I've hunted for the last six years or so in nothing but a saddle, I hunt a lot!!! I sit many times a year all day and I'm not going to lie things get uncomfortable sometimes, but I don't no that short of strapping a lazyboy to the tree you can be totally comfortable all day in anything. On the average 2-4 hour hunt I have no problem but would add that I've figured out pretty well the right way to sit and hang to be the most comfy, they take a little getting used too. A pair of knee pads helps a lot. I also have no problem taking upper body layers on and off while in mine and do so often. I have not seen or used the web so I have no opinions on it, but as with so much its a preference thing.
