Big Jim thunderchild vs Shrews, both great!
« on: December 14, 2010, 07:14:00 PM »
Yes I've been told that they are both great but have any of you boy had the pleasure of shooting both???

They look very similar but I was wondering if there is any difference in speed and shock.

Thanks Gents

I've got both and shoot both regularly. The shrew has more pre-load,while the TC is more forgiving and quieter, given my choice LOL flip a coin !My TC is a takedown while my shrew is a one piece.Jims takedown system is second to none and how I hunt and travel is a big advantage.
BOTH bows are at the top of their classes and second to none.Your preferances will dictate which one is for you, either one you can't loose.

TTT, inquiring minds want to know.  Can those who have shot both compare the grip specifically???  Thanks ever so much!

Barry,The grip on the TC is a little bigger and theres not to much room for adjustement because of the takedown system according to Jim.I have fairly short stubby fingers and it still fits good.In a one piece Jim could make it smaller. My shrews grip is smaller with a small thumb index which fits real nice.BOTH do fit real good.On my TC I've got the Beaver wrap which is the best grip I have felt.MOst preferances between these two are going to be purely personnal.
Jims workmanship and his ability to match beautiful woods is second to none. You'd love em both! Good luck.

Steve,

What Shrew do you have?

Steve,

My sentiments exactly!  I din't think Jim had too much wiggle room on the handle.  I love my TChild; even though I would love a little smaller handle.

Although I haven't owned a Shrew, I've had a few Griffins and I think the handles are pretty typical of the Shrews.

Todd,I've got a Super Shrew Deluxe,58" an absolute rocket launcher.i honestly feal TC's and Shrews the ideal hunting weapon, they both have so many great features.I'm carrying a bow all day and the super light weight is sure a pleasure.

Guys- If the handles are a little big, I can certainly work them down a "little" in the two piece, but there are limitations. The one piece is not a problem to make as small as necessary. I guess the difficulty comes in determining what small means or large or med etc, to everyone.

thanks, BigJim

I have never shot one of BigJims bows, but the Shrew handle is about as ergonomic as a bow grip gets, in my opinion. It isn't necesarily "small", it has the right shape.

I have owned four Shrews all were great bows and the grip was one of the best parts of the bow it just fits my hand like a glove. I have only seen one of Jims bows in person a Thunder Child the grip was alittle larger than the Shrew but still very nice and the bow shot great.I have two of Big Jims Bows on order right now last time I spoke to Big Jim my name was do to be coming up around Christmas/First of Jan so I am starting run like a kid at Christmas everytime the phone rings the last week  :D . I have been starting to think about my wood combos and such the last few weeks I was thinking about ebony on one bow and lacewood on the other but it will all depend on what Jim has in wood on hand thats real nice.
