Can a bow tillered for split be re-tillered for three under?

If so, will it quieten the bow back down to like it was when I shot split finger?

Yes, question probably better posted at the bowyers bench. Lots of good info there. Try a search there.

Red Tailed Hawk...good point, but I would send it back to the bowyer if it's possible. Just wondering if anyone has ever had it done before and if it made a difference.

You may be disapointed and out your money....I have been shooting 3 under for about 18 years with about 2 dozen bows. Some tillered 3 under, some not, some unknown. The tiller of the bow didnt seem to really make any real difference in the sound as compared to the bow type. Of my 4 "keepers" none are tillered 3 under. I really think the sound is just "sharper" rather than "louder"(12 gage vs .06) Completely retuning from scratch instead of just moving nock point up made the most difference in noticable sound. .........YMMV
Bowhunting is "KILL and EAT" not "Catch and Release".....Semper Fi!

Yes, it can be done.  But for many people they will not really notice much difference.  First try playing with the nock height as hvyhitter suggests.

If you are having weight taken off or the bow refinished anyway, certainly you can have the tiller changed then.

And it's a personal call, but having the tiller changed and then need to have the bow refinished is probably not necessary for the average shooter.

Ok...The bow is tuned and shoots like it should, but noisy.

Switched back to split finger for a few shots just to see the noise diff and it was quiet as a mouse compared to three under.

I look at it this way..at least I don't have to gues if the deer is going to duck now.

My son shoots three under with his Kanati, which is tillered for split. He shoots right at 10 ggp, and I don't think his bow makes any more noise than mine. I've experimented with a bunch of bows and found that some are loud when shot three under and some aren't. Tiller didn't seem to be much of a factor as all but one were tillered for split. The one tillered for three under was louder when shot three under...go figure. The bottom line is some bows are louder when shot three under and some aren't. I don't think tiller is as much of a factor as general design and materials.

As several have said already, you would most likely be wasting your money. If your bow shoots well and you shoot at relaxed deer, you shouldn't have a problem. If the deer is alert and skittish, it will probably duck no matter how quiet the bow.

I have had bow limbs reduced a couple pounds and the re-tillered to 3 under at the same time, but I would expect you'll see little difference in noise.  3 under just seems noisier for most folks.

I shoot split most times, but play with 3 under.  I have bows tillered both ways.  I have only had one bow shoot as quiet 3 under as split. It was tillered 3 under.  The only thing I have seen consistent is I have problems tuning three under bows shooting split but not the other way around.

I stringwalk which makes the three under noise that much worse. One thing I have found that really helps on most bows is 4 or 5 eliminator buttons on the string a couple inches below your fingers. Not sure why it works but it does and they dont cost much to try.

There are so many varying opinions that its hard to say what I really think here because I do not wish to offend anyone with a different opinion.
Buttttttttttt , In my opinion it will make a difference depending on the bowyer and what kind of job he does. It sounds like since the bow is timed to the split tiller that when you go to three under you throw the limbs out of time. In otherwords they do not return at the same time to brace. AJP66 hit it by saying that adding weight in the form of eliminator buttons worked for him.
What that did was slow the bottom limb down and made the limgs return in sync.
Since your bow is quiet in the split mode I believe tillering for three under and retiming if necessary would do the trick. It may not ever be as quiet as it is now but should be really close.

I ask all my customers what style they shoot and then tiller and time to their style. They are too a man happy with what they get so it must work.

God Bless and Merry Christmas to you All. Steve

Thanks for the thoughts everyone.

I think I will contact the bowyer after the season and see what he thinks.
