Three piece longbows

Hey guys I'm looking to buy a three piece longbow.  Leaning toward a horne combo hunter longbow or a morrison shawnee with dakota limbs.  I would appreciate any pros or cons on either.  Thanks!

Hey Grizzly - I have a Horne's three piece combo and it is a beautiful bow, quiet and reasonably fast.  However the more customs that I order the more that I realise the grip is the most important thing.  It is not the bow's fault but the grip on that bow is all wrong for me.  I thought it would be ok, but after purchasing it I can't hit the side of a barn.

If you like a longbow with a slight shallow dish for the grip, then get the Horne's.  If you need something with a more full, high-wrist grip then that bow is not for you.

After getting my Toelke Whip where Dan put so much into fitting the grip to my hand - it has made all the diff in the world.  I am driving tacks with that bow and aceing nearly all of my shots - it really does make the difference!

Just bought a Bob Lee 3 pc. longbow off e-bay 64" 47#@28.5" and I have to say its a very nice shooter.I have a Massie but really need to focus when I grip the bow or I get bit.With the BL its just pick up and shoot.Smooth,quiet and hits were I look,and theyre not priced high!!Worth taken a look at.

I have a Morrison Shawnee with a couple sets of Dakota limbs.  Very smooth and very fast.  My preference is for longer limbs so my first set was 64 inches on an A riser.  Wanted a shorter set for blind hunting for turkey so took a chance on 60-inch limbs, which I thought would stack at my 28-inch draw.  Smooth as silk all the way out to 28 and probably past that.  I'm basically a one-piece longbow person, but the Morrison Shawnee will likely be in my stable for a long time.

I shoot a cari-bow silver fox that is one of the fastest and most stable bows out there but they are pricey also acs makes an excellent 3 piece but again very pricey and can take up to a year to get I think you need to try as many different ones as you can before you make a decision good luck and have fun Delin

Two excellent bows with very different grips. As stated above, try a few different grip styles first if you can and find what fits your style. If you have no place to try anything, buy used and try a few different ones, that way you can make less investment and trade the bows that don't fit for equal value and do some testing to find what works for you. That way when you order your custom it will be a keeper.

I have been shooting a Bob Lee T/D longbow for about six weeks now and it is a very good shooting bow. I think is going to be my go to bow. Try one, you won't be sorry.

Thanks for the replies guys.  I sold a bow that I wasn't shooting anymore to finance a new custom bow order.  Problem is I'm like a kid in a candy store, can't make up my mind.

sorry i haven't shot either one. but i'll echo sutto's thought. the grip can be very important to an individual. think of what type of grip you desire and go from there.


i have a 50's style recurve made by horne and the grip is very comfy.
