I picked up my first carbon arrows today to shoot out of my longbow.  Gold Tip 35/55s.  I asked the pro shop owner not to cut them as he suggested but to fletch 11 and leave one bare.  I shot the one bare and another feathered to see how close they would shoot.  Not that close, really.  The feathered arrow shot fine but the bare hit away and not always straight.  I tried changing nock points but that didn't make much difference.  I then cut an inch off the bare shaft but left the feathered shaft alone.  That lost inch was a mistake.  It porposed terribly as it flew down range with the tail flinging up very high.  At 12 or so yards it would stick out of the roundbale with the nock up.  At 25 yards the tail flip was very noticeable about midway through but it would stick into the bale pretty straight.  The feathered shafts fly well as they are stablized.  
I had the fellow at the pro shop shoot the bare shaft at 20 yards in his indoor range with a trigger release to see if it was my split finger release or the arrow.  Same thing as before.  
At this point I am going to leave the other 11 shafts alone and shoot them as they are.  I do know that my fistmele is too wide.  A couple of strings are on order and after trying them I will see if it will help the situation.

Cutting off an inch off the arra would make it stiffer,try a slightly heavier point.You may have to strip the fletch off another too.

It took me a while to learn that carbon arrows
like a heavy point. (f.o.c.) Also, I found that when trimming the length of the shaft, taking an inch at a time was too much.

Nothing against other arrow materials, but the extra time carbons can take to get right, is time well spent because of the durability.

As far as brace height, my experience was that what worked good for wood or aluminum, was what worked good for carbon also. Ditto for nock point
position.

What longbow are ya shooting and how many pounds at your draw length. I may be able to give ya bit of advice on length and point weight and get ya darn close to what ya need to be shooting. Shawn
