Elk limbs

While i'm optimistic I can get a 2nd set of limbs  for my hunter 2 TD from Chek Mate if I can't do you think another bowyer would make a set for my riser?

I'm shooting 45lbs now and want to be near 55 for hunting elk.

I would think a bowyer would have to have your riser to build limbs that would blend in right with the angle of your riser. I know I would. Plus the precision of how the limb bolts and distance between bolt and pin is critical.

Ok, thanks. I'd be happy to send them my riser but I guess your saying it is possible. I hope to get cheek mate limbs and I'm still a fan. I was just wondering. Thanks.

Check with Chad and it might be worth putting a "want ad" in the classifieds. Several years ago I shot a Hunter II and found a set of limbs on the classifieds here! Good Luck!

I think 10 pounds is a huge jump in bow weight.  With a well matched arrow, 5 additional pounds will do just fine.  50 pounds is plenty to kill elk if your shot is decent.  Just hate to see you struggle through a shot with too much bow and miss (or worse yet wound) a nice animal on the mountain.  Don't mean to offend you, just my 2 cents.

IMO arrow weight is another consideration when discussing sufficient bow weight for elk. There are a lot of differing opinions on how much bow weight is enough... but a "heavy" arrow can make a marginal bow weight sufficient. (I killed my first and only elk shooting about 47# and a 630 grain arrow.)

With that said... an exercising (strength) program could increase your potential draw weight 10 lbs. in an 18+ month time frame (IMO).

Personally... I'll hunt elk with as heavy a draw weight as I can handle and still shoot accurately. I'll also use a porportionatley heavy arrow set up with a "scary sharp" COC broadhead.
