Hornes kit bow
« on: December 30, 2010, 08:24:00 PM »
Has anyone tried the Hornes archery three-piece longbow kit? I've never done any bow work before, but I'm curious about the difficulty of completing this longbow. I'm not the most patient person when it comes to stuff like this, but their pics of the completed project make it  awful tempting. I like its lines and the grip that can be sculpted.   Thanks.

There is a review by Burr Acres, all you have to do is a search with "Horne Archery School".  I made a bow with him and 3 others and I LOVE my Horne's 3-piece TD longbow!!!

I also have a thread about my experience, but I couln't locate it.  It you go to the 2-day school it's almost idiot proof!

If you have a little wood-working skills I am sure that you'll be o.k. if you have a shop and necessary tools.  Be sure to get the CD by Mark, I believe it is included with the kit bows?

Don't ever say something is idiot proof...someone may take it as a challenge! I'll do the search. The riser I'm sure I can handle; it's the limbs that scare me.

I am lucky to do my own arrows but I have 3 Horne bows, 2 of them the 3pc longbows (with 4 sets of limbs between them) and they are awesome. The Hornes are great people too and I would be confident that they would provide good stuff and support for it.

I once had a Brushbow that was pretty nice, but I moved it along during a fit of awful shooting. I should have kept the bow and just fixed the shooter. Hornes quality is excellent, and I sure wouldn't mind a three-piece longbow. Thus the inquiry about their kit bows.

I was considering the same, then found one for sale on the used bow section here (not a kit, but 3 piece long bow).  Love it!  Take the challenge.  Just walk away if you feel frustrated or rushed. The project will get done.  enjoy the process, the bow would have great meaning if you did the work yourself.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

I have one of the 3 piece kit bows.  I went through the school.  You will be fine.  The limbs arent that difficult.  Everything is explained very well on the cd Mark sends with the bows.  It's the only bow I've used hunting this year.  Love the way it handles and shoots.

I feel I'm being nudged (in a good way) to pull the trigger and try it. If I wasn't heading out-of-state twice this year I'd consider the school. I'd rather go on a hunt, but that's just my choice for now. I'll fire an e-mail off to Mark anyway...you just never know.

I had a 3pc longbow that I took in a trade a few years ago and I liked it a lot. It was a bit too heavy and I sold it. I'd like another sometime.
