HONOLULU (AP) — The state is inviting hunters to help it control the goat population in west Kauai.
The state is issuing permits for goat hunting free of charge on a first-come, first-serve basis to those who already have a 2011 Hawaii hunting license.
The area for the hunt covers part of the Puu Ka Pele Forest Reserve. Hunting will be allowed on Jan. 6-7, 13-14, 22-23 and 29-30.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources said in a statement Wednesday that hunters will be allowed to kill up to 2 goats per permit.
The state plans to issue 150 permits for each two-day hunting period, or 600 overall.
