I guess the products mentioned above work real well, likely better than my way. That said, I can tell you I recieved a bow for my daughter a couple of years ago and it was ripe with tape residue that had been on for years. I did not know what to do, so I took nail polish remover (with a wife and daughter I have plenty around)and used that. The finish is beautiful and all the tape ... after lots of rubbing with cotton balls and N.P.remover, all the sticky crap came off. The bow now looks incredible.
So I guess if you do not have Goof Off or WD-40, you can try nail polish remover.
