It's been nearly twenty years, but just after Christmas I decided to dig out my dad's old bow and see what would happen. A new string and Bear hair later, it was time to find time to shoot. I work two full-time jobs, so time is precious, especially with a three year-old. Took the family to our big county park on Jan. 2 to get my archery permit (Living in a non-projectile weapon town is no good.), but didn't have any time to shoot before I had to get to bed.
Well, today my wife took my daughter to see a movie, and my window of opportunity opened right up. A little chilly today, but not too bad. I figured I'd only send a few arrows down range, just to get the feel for what was basically a new bow, if not an entirely new hobby. Well, everything felt good, and I was on the target from twenty yards with every shot. Unfortunately, in my unnecessary haste, I hadn't really cleaned the shelf, and the Bear hair started to peel away. Guess that's one more issues with vanes, but that's what I've got right now, so that's what I'm shooting. Finally, after about twelve shots with adjustments to the rest after every one, the rug chased an arrow down range. Time to call it a day, I suppose.
Stopped by a local sporting goods store where all the trad gear they have is on clearance and picked up a weather rest. Got home and put it on, along with a new nock ring then looked at the clock. It's going to be tough going to bed and thinking about how good it felt to shoot again, and how much fun I had shooting a whopping seventeen arrows. Oh well, there is always tomorrow. If I have the time.
Sorry about the long post, but since it it my first, I hope I can be forgiven. I do want to thank everyone for making this forum such a great source of information. From finding out that, yes, the bow is still safe to shoot, to learning that a Sharpie is not the best method for marking your nock point
