Still hunting
« on: January 10, 2011, 12:29:00 AM »
To start I have never been a great hunter but in the last few years I noticed that I could move through the woods very stealthily with almost no sound so I decided to still hunt with limited success and couldn't figure out why. This last year with the urging  of my loving wife I went to an EMT and found out I had a Meniere's Disease which had caused me to loose 75% of my hearing in my left ear and 20% in my my right ear now with the new hearing aids I am a certified bumbling idiot in the woods and will return to hunting from tree stands next year.

I know the felling about losing your hearing. I still enjoy still hunting. Some years I get lucky some years not.

Just turn them off and you'll be sneaky again. That's what I do.

Unfortunate about the hearing loss but I like your sense of humor in how you're taking the news.    :clapper:    :clapper:

Join the crowd, I wear hearing aids as well, and find that after getting used to them, I could still move along fairly quietly, because I could hear better.
They slowed me down alot, and it is one of my favorite ways to hunt, with moderate success.
Archery is a family sport, enjoy it with your family.

I have that danged Tinitis so bad, I'm never alone...30,000 crickets are always with me!

I have the Walker Game ear, but with just one, I can hear sounds, but no clue where it's coming from. I spook more critters swiveling my head trying to figure out where it's coming from.

They want to sell me another one...but the price got too wild for my budget for a 2nd one.

What STumpkiller's FIL said is hilarious!  :)

I too don't hear well. I see a lot more game while on stand, but nothing matches the thrill of sneaking up on bedded buck or bull. You never forget these moments.

At the end of the day, you're "still hunting" I've got it mastered.

Stumpkiller I have been been blessed with the love of a strong family and friends so the sense of humor is pretty easy. "Hearing loss is God's gift to old married men." is funny!

I always thought it may have been muzzleblast if I cover my right ear I believe I'm legally deff but I'm only 17 so maybe I have that but my right ear is very very precise with sounds I just usually think every animal comes in from the right.
