Anybody hunt arctic hare?

Hey, my wife and I are talking about a trip to Alaska, and I've told her I can't go without killing something. I am ciphering with a buddy about blacktail or caribou, but it occurs to me that bunnies would be a real blast and probably much more accessible. Please, if any of you guys have done this, please share some stories and advice. Thanks.

Alaska is a Dream Place for Me. I would love to go there and NOT Kill anything. But if You have to hunt up there.. Ask some of the Alaskan here if they know of places or if They could take You out for small or big game..

Hugh, Bill from Alaska here. We hunt rabbits all the time as the other seasons allow. On a good morning it is easy to kill say 10 or 12. They run in cycles and are very scattered and live in pockets. You can find huge amounts in one area, and two hundred yards away, next to nothing. Our area in the interior is just coming off the high in the cycle and should crash this year or the next. (It's OK with me, cause the predators get realhungry and respond to calling better when the bunnies are low) Fall is the best time as they will start turning white before the snow falls and they are easy to see. Limits are huge,( 20 a day in our area) Spring hunting involves pregnant females so nobody messes with them) Give me a shout as I would be happy to assist you in your trip up here. And don't forget to bring your fly rod.

and I'll shoot you some pics

Mr. HugeBull,
In our area there is no closed season and no limit.
Small game license is a bargain!
Best Wishes

I drove up from Maryland two years back. The drive is long but the scenery is fantastic along the Alaskan Highway. I visited friends up there in Northway and spent a few days hunting moose (didn't shoot one but saw plenty under 50"). There were a lot of grouse but I don't recall seeing any hares (we were in muskeg country), ran across a grizzly also but he was interested in the moose and didn't pester me. I made a few little drives, one up to Chicken and another over to Delta and then down toward Anchorage and back to Tok just to see more of the State, great place.

So, I could bring my bow to Alaska, see some gorgeous country, shoot some dinner (grouse or rabbits), and live happily ever after? Whatta country! This makes a family trip to Alaska sound a lot more affordable and fun! Thanks, guys.

They are fun to hunt.Like was mentioned they tend to be scattered out. This fall there were quite a few around the house though. If you decide to come contact me and if you are in my area we might be able to find some.
