I don't want to start a war over wearing wool, especially since I love wool and do wear it almost all the time.

Recently I have had a bug to do a bivy type hunt in the near future. I would also like to attend as many 3-D shoots this coming season as possible, so I have been busy getting some camping equipment together. You know like back packs and sleeping bags, stoves, tents, etc.

I went into one of the local camping equip. places and being frugal, I went to the closeout area. They had this interesting jacket or 3/4 jacket that usually cost $229.00 for $100. It's very thin more like a spring jacket or cool summer piece of clothing. the young guy working their said it's for cold climates ? I was surprised as it is really thin. Well I tried it out and was very surprised, I had on a mid weight performance shirt, not under armor, a cheap one, and a thin smart wool sweater. Stood outside in mid to upper 20's with plenty of wind, not real long but long enough to know if it works. I couldn't believe it, it's not only warm but very comfortable, they said it's some kind of new Tech. gotten from the armed services. It's not water proof because the seams have not been sealed, but water just runs off of it. Yesterday I did a lot of outside work on the wood pile, never overheated, never got cold at all, even went for a walk after it got dark and started to get colder, no problem. Today I went out and shot the LB, only for an hour or so but what is interesting is I only had on a light glove for the bow hand and just a shooting glove for the other, never got cold at all. Now when I wear wool my hands still get cold unless I use proper gloves, but with this jacket, nothing.

The name on it is EMS ( Eastern mountain sports ) Ascent series, the shell is 100% nylon pile fleece, pockets ( which stayed very warm ) 100% polyester. It's basically 100% nylon and polyester, it's very quite, wind proof and breathes extremely well, doesn't restrict  movement at all, and it's so thin. It might get me to thinking about selling some of my thick wool stuff, if so I'll post them here first.

Would I spend $230 for it, I don't know, But for hundred bucks, I think I have my hunting jacket for next season, this one is black, don't know if it comes in other colors, but I use 3-D leafy anyway.

Just though it might be interesting for someone to know about this stuff, and by the way it's mostly used for hiking as far as I know.
