« on: January 17, 2011, 05:03:00 PM »
well i got my ilf all set up and got the rest centered and paper tuned.i was going to try and string walk for recurve unaided in the ibo..try something different...well got my 30 and 20  set and now i hate shooting this way.i am more accurate shooting at a spot i wanna hit than looking down an arrow setting my tab at the right gap..i guess im trying to figure out how to do all this with no instruction on how to do it and is frustrating too say the least..anyone have any pointers for me....

Steve,  String walking is three under on steroids.  With that large of a departure from what you are used to, if you don't give it 3 or 4 months steady, you will never be happy with it.  Too many times we try something for a day or two and give up on it as unworkable.  Also, shooting at a spot while making a significant change in mechanics is asking for trouble.  You need to learn the mechanics first without trying to hit something.

Are you willing to give up what you are; to become what you could be?

I stringwalked in the late 60s and 70s for NFAA field archery only.  The most important thing was we were shooting from MARKED stakes so you didn't have to guess on yardage.  You worked your drop downs from under the nock by trial and error but always from marked stakes.  We used the slots in the finger of the tab, counting servings, marker marks on serving, etc. as references for placing the tab on the string.  I don't know how it would work in a hunting situation myself and wouldn't dare try it.  You would have to be able to accurately estimate yardage though in order to shoot this way.

Like said earlier, unless you are willing to give it a few months it may not be worth it. I tried switching from split fingers to 3 under a few times & hated it. After shoulder surgery I decided it was how I was going to shoot. Stuck with it & love it now.
