Quick question...gotta get Insert Iron off my arrows!
« on: January 20, 2011, 12:31:00 PM »
I was sloppy with some Insert Iron while building up a dozen CE Heritage 250s. I used too much. Long story short, I needed to remove the brass inserts in an emergency, and now I want to clean off the goop left on the arrows.

Help? What dissolves this stuff and won't ruin the arrows?

First off what's insert iron?  If it's glue scrape it off with a box or pocket knife.  If you are careful you wont hurt the finish.

Scrape it off. That is some good stuff.

I'd never heard of it, either.  It's a Bohning cement.  According to the MSDS information it is a polyurethane structural adhesive, so acetone will soften if not remove it . . . eventually.  Probably do some harm to the shafts, also.

Try some nail polish remover - a softer alternative to acetone.

Is the inside diameter of the shaft the same as a .22 cal wire or plastic bore brush? if so get one I would do a plastic one first and put it into your speed drill and take it slow and insert it into the end of the shaft and scrape it off with that.

It removes with heat - also allows you to remove inserts with heat - designed that way and says so on the package - it's good stuff

Sorry I think it's called Point Iron? It's gummy and on the outside of the arrow, and has picked up dirt and blackened. I will wiped down with acetone....let y'all know.

Acetone and a green scratch pad would work for the outside.
