thinking of going with teh 3gpi ones  should give me around 550gr   5 gpi will put me around 606gr  and 8gpi will put me around 690gr

idk wwhich weight i should be aiming at for hunting. the bow if a little over 40# at my dl, just want a weight hats good enough to take down a smaller sized deer (100-140 field dressed weight) at 15yds (20 tops)

yes they can. They may not for you, but I have experienced it. They weaken the arrow spine for me.

I use full length 3gpi tubes and don't notice any change in spine. I like the added weight but they can be a pain at times. I'm considering just going to a stiffer arrow and adding more weight up front to get back near where I am currently which is right at 600gn.

After several attempts at weight additions with weight tubes, Aquarium hose and polyropes i will never use any of those again. For me theyre just a pain in the a**. Either they slide where you dont want them, change youre spine, are hard to install or knock out youre nocks. Its personnal experience for sure and others may have good experience with them, but for me, never again. Just my 2c

I would put the weight up front where it does the most good. Better flight and penetration. What is your set up?

I've used several different weight tubes with none of the problems mentioned here. I don't see where they affect arrow flight at all. I can see a some drop when I use the 3gpi tubes at 20 yards but only a few inches. Just hafta practice more to get it back up. Then of course if I take them out, I shoot a few inches high at 20 for awhile.

I've used them a bunch and changed a little. for arrows I want between 500 and 700g I use heavy inserts/points and can get the right spined shaft with the total wt. iwant . If I need a heavier overall weight for a heavy bow ...say 85 to 100 # then its harder to get that without a wt tube. if they fit well into the shaft , they won't change the way the shaft bareshfts in my opinion. If they rattle some you may get erratic flight  .I just checked ..i have 7   5gpi tubes if you want 'em    pm me.

Check your math - if your bow pulls 42 lbs (for example) 10 grains per lb would be 420 grain arrow. The 690 grain arrow from that same bow would be 16.43 grains per lb. and have the arch of throwing a rock. OK maybe that's a little over stated.

I used them for a while and noticed when I removed the insert after several weeks of target shooting that the tube had disintegrated from sliding forward on impact. Too inconsistent for my taste.

i rebuilt my arrow on the stu pine calc and it said my arrow ways about 466gr

my arrow

gold tip traditional 1535 at 29" 100gr brass insert and 125gr tip and 3 5" shield cut feathers.

i tried some alumiums and used the spine calc again to estimate there weight and there around 600gr if i remember correctly and the drop wasnt to bad. idk might just buy a pack and see,if i dont like it then i can always just pull them out

Any time you add weight, you change dynamic spine.  Whether it's enough to require a stiffer arrow or not depends on your arrow, your bow and your shooting form.

I use 5gpp weight tubes myself.  I've got a few arrow over 3 years old with weight tubes.  No problems at all.  Those losing nocks, why not glue them in?  A dot of glue and no more issues, ever.
