Alum. Arrow suggestions for Simmons Tree Shark B/H

Can someone offer some suggestions for Aluminum Arrow sizes for the set-up I'm wanting to shoot this Fall.

I'm shooting one of Jim Reynolds Thunder Stick M.O.A.B. LongBows that I picked up used in the Classifieds here a while back.

I'm pulling 42 - 43 lbs. @ my 27 - 27 1/2" draw legnth and I'm wanting to use the 2" 165gr. Simmons Glue-On Tree Shark B/H with the screw-in adaptors.

I was thinking 1916 or 2016's but I'm still fairly new at the Trad game and was wondering if Y'all think this might be too much FOC w/ the weight of inserts, adaptors and B/h at this light poundage (still recovering from Shoulder Surgery).

I know James Wrenn has used some of the Simmons heads with similar weight Bows with great success, but I beleive he shoots Carbon's and not Alum.

Appreciate any help you Folk's may have to offer.

I would think the 1916 should do nicely for you.

Both would probably work if you don't mind leaving the 2016 a little long if needed.If you are going to cut them back I would lean toward the 1916.

That's a pretty heavy head and the MOAB is cut very close to center shot.  I'd go with the 2016's........

Yeah, I realize that's a lot of weight up front that's why I was looking for answers from folks who have a lot more experience with this stuff than me    .

I was thinking about dropping down to their 135 gr. 1-9/16" Tiger Shark if I had to, but would much prefer to use the 2" Tree Shark if it'll fly.

James, I believe I read one of your posts where you had used the Tiger Sharks on some hogs. Do you think there would be much difference in terminal performance on deer using the 2" 165 gr. head vs. the 1-9/16" 135 gr. head?

YB I am hunting with a 42lb recurve this year for deer and hogs and plan on using the Tigersharks mostly.I always have one treeshark in the quiver for the right time but the tigershark works real well and the weight matches my arrows a bit better for this bow.Either broadhead will do a great job and leave some blood on the ground in case you don't see them fall.

Thanks James. I'll try both weights of course to see which one I can get to fly better.

I hunt some really thick areas up in the Mtns. and a lot of Ridgetops where the deer like to run down into the Hollows    :eek:    if they don't go down quickly after being hit. So I'm looking for a head that will produce lots of blood and kill quickly.

That pic of the Doe you killed with a Treeshark that looked like she was hit with a Machette was what got me interested in the Treesharks. But if I have to use the Tigersharks to get my set-up shooting well that will be o.k. too. Heck, a 1-9/16" head is still a right good sized B/H.

That is the way I see it too. :)The great thing is all the simmons fly like they are one of those little biddy broadheads so you get everything out of the arrow there is when it does get there.That was one of my first reason for trying them.Like many I was worried about having enough horsepower for such a wide head.That short draw on the doe you spoke of took all those doubts away for me.

Where do you buy your B/H, do you go directly thru Simmons or use a supplier?

I order them from the Simmons website.Most suppliers don't carry the full line so it is easier to go directly to the source for me.

Yeah, that's what I've been noticing. Didn't know if there was a supplier I wasn't aware of that did carry their full line.
