Camio Dip Questions...Wingnut/Big Jim
« on: January 30, 2011, 01:16:00 PM »
I'm not a speed freak...but would like to know....

Have either of you, or anyone elses chronoed a bow before and after just to see if any or how much FPS was lost?....I wouldn't guess maybe 3- 5.

Also, have you notice a camo dipped bow being quieter AFTER dipping....I would guess yes.

Just curious...I have one I would like to get dipped and am considering the changes 1st.

Thanks,

T

obviously I'm not wingnut nor Big Jim.  But on the speed department I would say that it has zero effect.  Just a guess.  But hydrographics go on so thin that I think its weight is negligible to actually slow down a limb.

IF you were put on the durasoft finish after being dipped (riser only) then yes I think it does have sound dampening qualities.  Durasoft makes for a very comfortable finish, imho.  I would not put the durasoft on the limbs though, that would slow down a bows speed.

A fellow tradganger friend of mine has a Widow PSA in the factory camo.  He also had a PSA3 at the exact specs of 58" long and a weight of 56# at 28".  With no silencers and using the same string/brace height, The Camo dipped version was noticeably quieter.  We could not find any difference which would make it quieter other than the camo.  The bow also shot a couple feet fer second faster too.  The only variance we could think of is that the Camo bow had different limb cores than the PSA3.  When talking to Widow at the Kalamazoo show in Jan. 2010 they said there should be no difference in limb material.  I would think that loss of speed would be very little if any at all.  I have seen a Big Jim dipped bow in his Oak Leaf camo at a shoot this last fall and it was awesome.  If he laid his bow on the ground it was amzing how it blended in.

Good questions. I hadn't thought of these and I'm also itch'n to have a bow dipped but I don't know which bow or if I own the bow I will dip yet. I'm headed for the fall pattern Predator.

terry...ive had a silvertip dipped years ago an had no effect on arrow speed..never noticed the noise diff..as long as you use the "screen"type dip I have a couple more now but never checked before or after just like the finish..
the tip had checkered grip an after 6 years never wore off the checkering...

Big Jim has done a couple of mine and I have noticed no speed difference.

I bet you wouldn't see, hear, feel a difference at all...

But I've never had one dipped, so it's just a guess    :dunno:

Before Big Jim bought us out, I was involved with the camo dipping. Lonnie and I chrono'd several bows before and after the camo dip. We saw no difference in speed on any bow.

Terry, I dipped a set of ILF limbs for a review I was doing. No diference in speed, or so little it was not enough to be sure  it changed.
As for noise the Bow was quiet to start and after the Dip it is still very quiet, so again I can't say that it changed . It took a couple weeks for the bow to go out and back.

This was a Hoyt TD3 I converted to ILF,after the Dip.

I saw a post by Mike on another site, he said they tested it and it made no difference.

I don't see there being any affect on either noise or speed. My entire box of camo film (I expect enough to do 100+ bows) probably doesn't way 5 pounds and that includes a 3 1/2 lb box.
