#53 Pronghorn. What arrows to shoot
« on: January 31, 2011, 06:28:00 PM »
Hey guys, I have a #53@28" Pronghorn and I am looking for suggestions on what arrow to shoot. I've been shooing GT 55/75 with 315 up front, but I'm looking to switch to aluminums. Where shoud I start. BTW I'm only drawing 27" so I figure it's right about 50lbs.

Thanks,
Beau

I would start with 2216, of course it would depend on the weight of your heads. I shoot them out of my 53 lb Whisperstik cut at 29" or 30". I think you would be close to a 2018 also. I have always gotten my info from the guys here and not the charts..Scott

Thanks, I'm trying to tune 2117's. They're full length with 145's right now and they're slapping the riser hard. I have a hard time with bareshafting, I think I have pretty good form and a decent release, but I never seem to get really consistent results.

I think the 2117's are too stiff. I would try 2016's  and 2018's with 175 gr pt, cut a hair over 28" bop. My guess the 2016's would fly the best. I shoot a little lighter bow and also draw 27". I shoot either 1916's or 2016's.

You will do better with a 2016 at about 28 inche. Pronghorns are not cut to center. I shoot a 55lb @27 inch pronghorn and use a 500 spine axis at 28 inches with 225 grains on the front.

The 2018 will probably work with your setup the 2016 may be even better.

I have a 54# 60" and 56# 58" Pronghorns.  I use Beman ICS 500s (the woodgrain ones sold by 3-Rivers) with 100 grain inserts and 150 grain heads.  They fly like they are being shot down a pipe.

I suspect that makes my recommendation similar to CA bowhunter.  I cannot imagine trying to shoot a 2216 or 2117 from mine.

I have a 54# 62" and I shoot 400 axis with a 100 grain insert and 150bh.  They fly great, and shoot great out of multiple bows.  My buddy shoots the same arrows out of his recurve and longbow.

Sweet, I have some 2016's. I shoot 1916's out of a #45 wing and they're great, but looking at some charts made me think I was way under spined. I guess that's why I was thinking on the stiff side this time.

Thanks,
Beau

I shoot 2 Pronghorns; 1-piece, 55 pounds@28 inches and 59 pounds @28 inches.  I have a 29-inch draw length.  For your bow, I would also suggest 2016s or 2018s.  Point weight, your release and how tightly your nocks attach to the string (among other things) can all affect individual set-up.  But those two arrow sizes should get you in the ball park.
