Linc,
I had a bulging disc L4-L5 and had it taken care of about 6 years ago. Three years ago I had a disc removed (C4) I think and a cadaver bone and titanium plate put in. I can just barely turn my chin to my shoulder since the surgery. I was out for 8 weeks without shooting at all. After te 8 weeks it was back to the Friday night league at Tollgate with a trip or two a week for practice. The dic was compressed half into the spinal cord, so there was some damage, but 90% of the pain was gone when I woke up from surgery. I cut meat for a living, and haven't noticed where the cold affects anything. Good Luck to you my friend. Will be thinking about you.

I had a double herniation removed in April 07 at L 4-5.  It was pushing on my nerve so bad I lost feeling in my right foot and could barely walk or stand.  I would have to lay down on the floor of the waiting rooms.  For me surgery was not optional.  I was scared to death when they wheeled me into the OR.  The next thing I knew, I was awake and had a little pain in my back.  No longer in my leg.  After recoving about an hour. I walked out of the hospital.  After 4 weeks, I started physical therapy.  Shortly after that I started to shoot my bow.  I have no regrets on having surgery, but also felt I had no choice. Get it done sooner that later.  I still have nerve damage in my right leg and some numb toes.It would have been worse if I waited longer. I am starting to feel them now after a little over 2 months post op.  My lower back will still swell up when I over do things.  Even if I shoot to much.

Linc,   My brother is being faced with this right now... a large tree limb crushed him and he's worried about surgery...
but more worried about his fishing afterward...
good to hear of the positive results from all of you and for sharing...you all are in our prayers.

..........Linc--- How did you make out???--I had L5-S1 and had a lamenectomy on 10/26--doing pretty well----could not walk without a cane going into surgery and was walking without one a few days later---better and better ever since--

---Surgery was not an option but a necessity--Doc told me if I wait I may sustain permanent nerve damage--

             take care---Mark

Get the book "Pain Free" by Pete Egoscue and do the e-cises.  The results for bad back, neck, etc. are nothing short of amazing.

JPW

ps - I have had herniated disks - and they can and do "heal".
