Monty is just a regular working man that loves hunting to the point that he just does what it takes to go. I believe most of his trophies are displayed so the local kids and others can enjoy them.

Had the pleasure of talking with him for about an hour last year after his Alaska hunt.

Truly a Southern Gentleman!

I guess in my earlier post I was thinking of a different hunt.  Monte had killed a caribou and got pretty close to the kill site a day (or so) later only to find a sow and two cubs on the gut pile.  Pretty spooky tale....

He told that story at Cloverdale a number of years ago....  There was no bear killed in that one.... so this one is diffrent.

Sorry for my confusion.

I gotta go with Biggie on the fact that Monty is one special person idea. I had the privledge of having him come stay at my house a whole weekend. I had never met him before that and it amazes me how much impact one man can have on another persons life in only a few days. Great Man

Another story that might be of interest...when Mr. Browning killed his world record water buffalo, he was guided by Andrew Mackay.  Andrew told me that when Monty arrived in Darwin he asked Andrew to please stop at a hardware store...he needed to pick something up.  Monty went inside and came out with some kind of hinge and Andrew asked him what it was for.  He said that his longbow was too long to fit with his luggage so he sawed it in half at the handle right before he left home.  He "simply" bought the hardware, fixed his bow back to working condition and then a few days later, killed the buffalo that was (and maybe still is) the world record.  It was with one of those big fiberglass arrows as well. If anyone can clean this story up...please do- but I think I'm pretty close on this one.

There aren't many stories to compare with Monty telling the grizzly story in person. In the article he writes that it was like a 27' shot, but he says it was really only about 15'. He said he changed the story cause he didn't think any one would believe the 15' shot.
