In response to the increased interest lately, I ask the Gang if any one had a 1 & 1/4 250 grain VPA Terminator I could borrow...well Benny came through! Thanks Benny!! As soon as I got it out of the box, I liked what I saw! Well built broadhead for sure! Next I took it to the range to do some comparison "testing" against my tried and true Snuffer 145s. Nothing formal or scientific...I just wanted to see how they compare.
My Snuffer arrows were Beeman MFX 400s with 100 grain brass insert. The Snuffer was 145 with 30 grain aluminum insert. Total point weight is 275.
My VPA arrows were same Beeman MFX 400s with a 15 grain aluminum insert. This totaled 265 point weight.
I shot each a few times just to see if flight characteristics were the same. They were! What I had never noticed before is the "hiss" of the Snuffers! I knew they made some noise just had grown accustomed to it I guess! VPA makes none! It was eerie quiet! For the record, I don't think the Snuffer hiss is an issue
Next, I shot each into a piece of cardboard to get an idea if cutting diameters were similar. They were! Again, nothing scientific, but just looking, I can't see a lot of difference!
Last, I decided to see if they were as easy to sharpen. Since it is Benny's head, I wanted this test to be minimally damaging, so I skipped the files stage I usually use and went straight to a Smith's Diamond stone! About 20 progressively lighter stokes per 2 blade side and it was scary sharp!
My only concern left is cost...but if they prove as durable in the field as they look, I'm sold!
