Working with what I already have...

Jason says my second Kanati will ship this week.     So it’s time this newbie got serious about arrows and tuning. I’m hoping I can work with the carbon arrows that I already have, and would appreciate your thoughts so I‘m not fighting with something that‘s not a good match.

My existing Kanati is 60” and 48# @ my 29”.
The new one will be 60” and 38# @ 29”.

The carbon arrows I have are, Traditional Only, 500s - 8gpi,
 and ST Epic, 600s - 6.4gpi.

Can I put together a workable combination for each of these bows, with these arrows? They are still full length and uncut. So far, I’m just working with field points. Which I have a good assortment off.

If the arrows show a little stiff then add more head weight.

yes.  Run the 500 in the 48# and the 600 in the 38#.  I don't know the center cut on that bow, but you can get a safe to shoot arrow.  You may need to build out to get a heavier point, more FOC, and more arrow weight.

You can definately make those work and most likely get one arrow to fly right by using  different head weights.  I am using the same shafts for R/D longbows shooting from 38 to 55 lbs.  The arrows are EFOC on a 600 spine Easton Epic shaft.  The key is to keep the shafts full length and then mess with head weight to get them to fly right in both bows.  Only cut the shafts down if you can make it work for both bows.

You are most likely going to be using heavy heads since brass inserts are not made for the Epic Shafts.  I am using 300 grain heads and aluminum outserts on my heavy arrows and 250 grain heads with the same outserts for my light bow shooters,

If you cannot get them to spine properly ( they are all showing weak ) then cut them down to spine properly for the heavier bow.  Get that set tuned and then fiddle with varying head weights to get the light weight bows arrows tuned.

How your riser cut out is set makes a lot of difference too.  Is it center cut, past center or short of center cut?  The bowyer can tell you this info.

The nice thing is having three different archers in my house and all I have to do is change the  head weight and the same shaft works for everyone.
