AD Hammer Head Lite Set Up question?

How does this set up sound out of a 48# Chek-Mate Falcon. (cut just past center)

AD Hammer Head Lite with aluminum insert, carbon collar, 150gr point, glue-on nock adaptor or g nock uni-bushing, 4- 4" fletch.  Will I be able to cut down to 29.5" with the 150gr point weight or will I need to keep longer or full length?  Or would it work better to use the brass insert or bump up in point weight at 29.5" ?   I really don't like having anymore arrow hanging off the shelf than necessary.

if it was me... i would try to make srue my arrows were something close to 10 gpi (ie 480g)  and see how they shot.  then you may want to try something different.  (i'm guessing you already have the material on hand) i would think a arrow with 4 fletchings would be very stable just bc of the 4th fletch...

I would not cut them that short. 30 min length. Those arrows have a wide range. I use the brass insert, no collar. G nock for sure. Play with different point weight

I use almost the same set up. Loose the collar. Not necessary, as the first 11" of those shafts are internally footed. You will not break them. Trust me, I try all the time. Ted Fry from Raptor archery had some to do with the development of the Hammerheads. He is a wealth of knowledge regarding them. Contact him and he will square you away.

I also agree to cut them to 30" BOP. Mine are 30" BOP, Standard insert, G nock adapter, 4x4" fletch. Without a field tip, they come in right at 400gr. For my #50 bow I use 145gr tips with great results. They also shoot well with up to 200gr tips.

Great arrows. I use them in center cut bows from #38-#50

I have cut the shafts to 27" for a customer shooting a 50lb recurve. They flew just great.
The collars are a good choice with the hammerheads it will help protect the exposed carbon that the insert does not cover up.

If you want to use a glue on nock go with the grizly stik nock adapters, you can use a 5/16 nock with them.

Thanks for the info.  and my set up will be virtually the same.
Sounds like your enjoying the arrows.  Just out of curiosity do you know what % of FOC you have with your arrows?  I'm not overly concerned with the weight forward design of this arrow anyway, just curious.

How much carbon is exposed without the insert? Does the brass insert cover better, or just go with the collars?

Im not sure of the % but I can guarantee Ted Fry knows. Give him a call. He will answer all your specific Q's.

The slight lip that is exposed is a non issue. Its maybe 1/32 of an inch which is negligible. I was also using the collars at one point, but Ted addressed it for me. It doesn’t affect performance one bit. The design of the tapered end or additional carbon that basically foots the shaft is slightly larger in diameter than the standard AD shaft. This is what you see exposed when the standard inserts are used. Raptor archery bevels the end of the shafts at 45 deg for the customers that are concerned with this. The bevel makes a smooth transition from insert to shaft which makes concerned customers feel warm and fuzzy. The collars are unnecessary weight and expense.

I have intentionally and unintentionally shot my shafts at rocks and frozen trees to test the durability. Haven’t broken one yet. Nock inserts popped out on occasion, but not broken.

Just another opinion, The brass inserts I had were slightly smaller with a little carbon showing. The carbon wan beveled, looked clean. I had one insert get pushed inside and split the shaft a little. I switched to the standard aluminum insert and it covers completely. I have tried to split it by shooting into rocks. No failure. Just my 2 cents.
