Hanging bows to apply spray finish??
«

I have only used a piece of fishing line tied to the top string groove to hang my bows while spray finishing. Of course it sways around from the air pressure of the gun, I also have that "Line" where the string was tied on and no finish is applied. I am talking one piece bows here.
Any good ideas out there on how to better hang the bows before spraying? Steve

Seen some folks that drill a really small hole through the upper or lower limb tip big enough for a piece of small diameter wire. Hang it from that and spray away. I usually do half at a time and put on a handle wrap to hide the place where they overlap. You could also use the hole to tie on a string keeper.

Surely you apply more than one coat? I simply alternate ends with each coat, using 4 coats on average. If I'm in a hurry or want more control of the bow as I spray, I wear latex gloves and hold the bow with thumb and index finger at the handle. After last coat and the finish is dry, I steel-wool the spot where I held the bow and spray it, just for protection. Handle wrap will hide any defects in finish. dave

Bailing wire works good at the string nock....3 coats, and fip it end for end....a couple more wet coats and yer good to go....i take a small paint brush to touch up the string grooves if necessary....Kirk

I drill a 1/16th inch hole in the upper limb tip, and hang it by some thin tie wire bent into a loop. I have also seen a cradle that holds the bow horizontally so that the back and sides can be sprayed then the bow turned over and the belly sprayed that worked fairly well.
