Mounting BHs...how much tweaking?

Okay, I bought some glue-on Zwickey Deltas.  I am mounting them on 2016s using glue-in, Flightmate-type broadhead adaptors.  2016s are 5/16ths, and the Deltas are for 11/32s.  I was told that this would work out, as the tapers are the same and the head would just slide down the taper and overlap the shaft a bit.

So, I just mounted one.  The head doesn't fit perfectly on the adapter, but it is close.  I used 5 minute epoxy and was able to get the head straight, I think.  The sides of the blades are not perfectly symmetrical and may give the illusion that the head may not be mounted perfect.  I'll just have to shoot it and see if I did it right or not.

Anyway, does this sound typical, or should the broadhead fit on the adapter with absolutely no play?

I like the idea of using the glue in adapters, but there are no larger heads that are made specifically for the 5/16ths adapters.

Brian, save yourself the trouble and get some interceptor screw inns, you wont be sorry

First off, I would use a heat adhesive such as Ferr-L-Tite instead of epoxy.  One of the best ways to check for straightness is to use a arrow spinner (there is even one for checking straightness of broadheads).  I have use Zwickeys a lot and seem to go on straight easy enough.

Spinning is the best way to check your alignment, a small piece of something hard and flat will work if you don't have an aligner, just spin it on your surface checking for wobble.

If you have play in your head it may not be seated properly, try spinning the head on and it may take the play out for you.

I have to echo SlowBowinMO and rbbhunt.  The spinner has never failed to mount my broadheads correctly. They always fly exactly like my fieldpoints when I am done.

I guess I better explain my process a little better.

I do have an aluminum arrow straightener, which I used to spin the arrow and check for alignment.  As I spun the arrow, I tweaked the head so it looked to be spinning as perfect as I could get it.  The only thing was that the tip of the head was not ground perfectly symmetrical, which may or may not have given the illusion of wobble.

When I put the head on the adapter, WITHOUT glue, there was some "play".  The head didn't fit perfectly on the adapter.

After reading some of the replies, I assume that there would be some play between the head and adapter, otherwise you wouldn't need to spin check them for alignment when you glue them up, right?

Now I get you.  Yes, you're not normally going to get a swiss watch type of match, a little tweaking is normal.

Brian occasionally the the screw in adaptors are not just right. You might want to add the step of spinning before mounting the broadhead.
The little bit of play does help in alignment.
even if the very tip of the broadhead is not perfect you can get the over all feel of the straightness. A very very small ammount of wobble will not effect flight at close range.

I got some 11/32 screw in adapters last year and the taper on them was wrong.. I tried them on several different quality broadheads and they didn't fit any of them.. There was no way to accurately mount a head on them. Fortunately I have a lathe and recut the taper on them. Called the supplier and they weren't impressed with my find at all...
