Have any of you found your sweet spot?
« on: February 19, 2011, 12:31:00 PM »
Today as my youngest is napping & my 9 year old is riding her bike I thought to shoot my grand fathers Grizzly into the basement.

Now through my time of shooting recurves I've grown fond to the 60" length models, they seem to fit me just right & my shooting improves when I have one in my hands compared to a 58" or even when I shoot my 64" bow & today it really showed in my performance.

My Grandfathers 1969 Bear Grizzly is 56" 50 @ 28" & for as long as I can remember has always been a dificult bow for me to be consistent with & today was no exception, now take either my Zona 60" 52 @ 28" or my Sky Hawk 60" 46 @ 28" I  can shoot either of them equally consistent & much more accurate than I could the ole Griz. & outide of the obvious string angle they both feel more comfortable & smooth by comparrison.

Has any of you found the sweet spot of a bow in length that you tend to either shoot them more or tend to buy them because of those traits, like I have?
Zona Custom Recurve: 60" 49# @ 27.5".
Sky Sky Hawk Recurve: 60" 47# @ 27.5".
Genesis 27:3 Now therefore, please take thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and hunt game for me.

i can shoot my 60" kodiak pretty good, my 64" polar pretty good and my 66" hybrid really good.

think i found i like nybrid style bows the most so far.   just bought a beeler 56" r/d long bow. guess ill see how i like that size.

For me 58" or 60" is "where it's at!"  I may shoot longer bows a little better but anything over 60" and I start getting a lot of string interference with my clothes and the extra length gets a little cumbersome for my hunting style.  I can shoot the 54" and 56" bows pretty good and they work great for my hunting needs but shooting targets at 30+ yards and I want something a little longer.
Chasing my kids and my degree for now but come next fall the critters better look out.  ;)

I have 56"-62" bows. I like the 58 & 60" combos best.  I'll never know how I'd shoot a 64" or longer bow because I refuse to own one I have to "look up to"!  Shoot, a longer bow's brace height is at full draw for me.

I've owned the following recurves: 60" Bear Super Kodiak, 64" Bob Lee Signature Hunter and 66" Blacktails. With my 30" draw length, I prefer the 66" Blacktail recurves  with their 19" risers.
Blacktail TD Recurve: 66", 42# @ 30". Arrow: 32", 2212. PW: 75 Grains. AW: 421 Grains. GPP: 10.02
Blacktail TD Recurve: 66", 37# @ 30". Arrow: 32", 2212. PW: 75 Grains. AW: 421 Grains. GPP: 11.37

I've found the brand to be more of a factor for me than length. After would be grip, followed by sight window size, and then length.

FWIW though, the more I shoot and improve my form and release,I can switch between my 61# 60" Morrison ILF recurve and my 1953 64" 57# Bear Cub longbow and expect to hit what I'm looking at.

I always found 58" recurves to be friendly to me.If the grip was OK and the poundage was doable I was good. As I get older I seem to go for some longer bows. 60-62 are good ,but I found a 64" Zipper that is just a sweetheart to shoot and I like it.Same with longbows....for me now longer is better,if I can live with the grip.
