At the risk of sounding overly sentimental, I offer my story...
Years back I lost my Grandpop, a man I held in very high esteem, as he lived in the house across the street from mine while I was growing up. Pop took me places to fish and taught me much about a work ethic. Pop's final lesson he taught me was about the pain of loosing a loved one, as he was the first death that really floored me. He was a machinist by trade and in his retirement, during those last puttering years in a man's life he fashioned a knife out of an old Mill Bastard file. I still have that knife and man can it keep an edge.
Last March I lost my Dad. Of the very few items that Dad passed on to me was a Swedish knife under the brand name of Mora. It's a fine knife with excellent steel material.
GrandPop and Dad were partners in keeping me raised on the straight and narrow while I was growing up. I'd like to see both those knives together as partners, by my side as both men used to be when I was a kid.
Both of these knives are of different blade styles and both have beat up wooden handles. I'd like to make a matched set of them by re-gripping with Elk or Deer antler. And I'd like to have a leather sheath made to contain both knives in.
My question to the Trad Gangsters is as follows: Are there any of you knife makers out there willing to adopt my little project of re-gripping a couple of belt knives with horn/antler and fashioning a stout leather shealth to house my treasures?
