Traditional Only 300's
« on: March 07, 2011, 03:24:00 PM »
My bear takedown is 58# at 31" and I draw 31".  My Traditional only 300 shafts are cut to 32", I have 100 gr. brass inserts and 200 gr. points.  5.5 " shield cuts.  My problem is a bit of nock left still with feathers at 20yds. Could they still be too stiff and slapping the shelf?  I doubt this shaft is too weak.  If I put 125 gr point up front the problem gets worse.

I shoot alot of straight 300's and you're probably not all that far off.  But for me, I still like to mix in a few bare shafts with my other feathered shafts to make sure things aren't changing, for any number of reasons.  When my shafts are stiff, they do tend to slap the shelf a bit.

If the 125 grain point makes it worse, it looks like it is to stiff and you are hitting the shelf.  Try a 250 point and see what happens.

I think the problem is that my "100 gr." brass inserts only weigh 50!  Thanks for everyone's help.

Don't know if this helps or not but I shoot 55# at 29.5 and my arrow is 31 inches. I shoot 300s with 100 gr brass insert and 250 gr heads. This sounds weak and according to Stu's it should be, however bare shaft after bare shaft supports this arrow as my one true love  :)

So either the bow is mismarked (maybe), my Stu's skills are limited, or I am afflicted by some type of stiff-arra voo-doo. Whatever, it works, and critters are getting killed because of it.
