double serving
« on: March 14, 2011, 04:00:00 AM »
Having issues trying to serve with diamond braid over mono.  Any other idears?

I was using a 8 strand dyna97 string and 5/16ths bohning classics.

Made a 10 strand before work tonight and going to try and jump up to the largest serving I have when i get home this morning.

Nocks are too loose with the mono undeserving and its a pain to over serve the mono..it wants to slide and I dont think its wearing very well (compressing to fast with use).

idears? thoughts?  Anyone underserve with dental floss?  if so how is that to serve over?

Check out the string making videos on Protege Longbow's site.  They are a sponsor here.  He does a little building up under the serving with tape and a couple strands of string material.  I tried it and it seems to be holding up and working o.k.

I usually use .018 braided under and .021 62xs over, have not had any move since going to this.

You can build up your serving where you knock with dental floss to tighten it up.

I'm not sure what nocks I use in my Goldtip 3555s but I use 9 strands of D97 or D10 for my strings and serve with Brownell's .030 Diamondback Serving material. This comes out almost perfect for me. Other people have used my stings and it seams good for them also.

When I need to increase the string diameter for better nock fit, I lay in one or two strands of extra string material prior to making the center serving. I've been doing that for as long as I can remember. It's basically the same way people pad loops.

Honesty, the best thing you can do with mono is strip it off and throw it away.

I just served a 6 strand string using regular masking tape to build to fit my nocks.  I really like the way it came out, stays consistently round and seems to help the serving material really set.  Only shot about 50 arrows so far but pleased with results
