Narrow Stick bow shelf problem?
«

I own a Martin Stick bow and the shelf is very narrow. An easton axis shaft is as wide or wider than the shelf. I do not have a problem with keeping the arrow on the shelf but i do have a problem trying to find a material for the riser pad rest and the shelf. I bought a Fred Bear bear hair rest and pad but they are both to thick. The only thing that I've found to work is a very thinly cut piece of supple glove leather, that i then cut to shape and hot glue down on the shelf and overlap up on to the riser for the riser pad. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a better product out there? What does everyone else do?

two solutions I know:
go to thrift store and find an old kid glove. Use the leather from that, very thin.
shoot off the wood. Believe it or not, it works. I do it all the time. Hunting it might be a problem noise-wise, so back to the kid glove...
'course, there's always duct tape....

Those are the only solutions that i've found too. Theres really not a lot material that could be used for this problem.

My girlfriend shoots the same bow. We just used a piece of thin leather for the shelf and side plate and it works fine.
I think I may avoid hot glue as it's kind of thick. If you use Barge Cement you can put on just a very thin layer and it will hold the leather just fine. That could help with what you are describing.

Yes. The thickness of the hot glue did pose quite a few problems. I had to keep re-doing it until I got it thin and evenly spread before it set up. Wasn't an easy task. Thanks for the advice!

I use a leather belt and with a razor blade shave thin pieces for the rest and strike plate.

Another great idea! IT really is, because I need something very thin. Thanks!
