MAII question

I traded for a MAII over the fall and just had a chance to shoot it last month. I'll admit I always kinda looked at the widows in a critical manner and thought there was alot of hype about them. So, I traded a bit to get this one, which is an older 1988 model. My first impression once I adjust my grip a bit was it shot really smooth, hit pretty hard and pretty much where I was looking with small adjustment. The limbs although smooth feel soft almost spongy on release. I'm not sure if that's what they shoot like or what just feels different. Is this normal for the older MAII's? The bow is marked 69#@31 and I draw about 28", it's not lacking in flinging an arrow so I don't believe the tips are getting weak but it feels weird. I like the bow and have changed my thinking on the widows, enough so I plan on driving down and having them refinish it when I can. I could use some advice or insight on the MAII. Thanks guys.

Does it have a dacron string on it? Dacron strings always feel kinda of springy to me.I used a D97 on a BW SAV 50#@26 I had and it shot and felt great.I think a string has alot to do with the feel.I prefer to use an endless string when using dacron,that seems to cut down on the springy feeling.But only use dacron on a couple of older vintage recurves.

Great shooting bows.I shoot fastflight on mine and can tell the difference from b50.I have shot the bow with both and prefer ff on this bow.You can check with Widow, they will be able to tell by serial number if that bow is compatible with ff.

I would call BW on the string thing, look at the numbers under the limbs , i have a 89' and its ff ready but i dont thing the 88's were..I have a 67@30, and draw it 31"and i use b-50 string  but i dont notice the spongy feeling that you are talking about... SteveT

I believe the strings I have are FF since the limbs according to Roger are made for FF. They are the red and black ones they are currently selling. I'm going to get new strings anyway. The spongy feel might not be quite the right way to describe what it feels like, maybe just soft. Course it might just be that the limbs are alot smoother on the draw than I'm used to. The limbs at the curl and tips just seem more flexible than other recurves I've shot, that could be what I'm feeling. If it is man have I been missing out on how limbs should feel.

I have a right hand MAII, 67# @ 28". Nice shooting. I use dacron strings without any problem. I've taken lots of game with it over the years.  

It's too much draw weight for my tired right shoulder though.I'm looking to sell it or trade down in draw weight for something in the 40-50# range. Any takers?!?

I have had several BW's, including some of the original Wilson brothers bows and they were all great shooters even a couple of the newer designs.

I also have a pre FF MA III.  They have a different feel as far as I am concerned.  I think it is just "smoothness".....

If the braceheight is low ya may get the spongy or soft feel, they like a high brace. Great shooters with their long sight window! Congrats on a nice bow! Shawn

What length is the bow. Maybe a longer bow might feel a little soft, don't know. If you do drive down to Widow works be sure to try some bows while your there, then maybe then you can compare.

 Sure wish I lived that close. Maybe not it might get too expensive lol.

The bow is a 62" and the brace height right now is 8 5/8". I took it out awhile ago and shot it for about an hour, and I think it's just the limbs drawing smoother than I'm used to toward the end of the draw. Wasn't spongy just felt smooth all the way back. Now if I can just get my brain to get over this habit of not hitting anchor I think the bow would be deadly.
