Our guides had some rather descriptive stories about the things they had seen "town bears" eating in the local dump.  That was their rationale for not wanting to eat bear meat.

bah dont listen to them. Bear is one of the best tasting critters in the woods.

As long as it hasnt been on the fish for a while. But you dont have to worry about that in the spring. They try to get thier metabolisms going by eating grasses and shoots.

Bear burgers are GRRRRRRRRRREEEAAT!!

How about a backstrap stuffed with spanish olives and onions marinated in black pepper and balsamic vinegar???

Mmmmm good.

Frank, now you're driving me crazy!  One of our guys brought down a pretty big boar the last night and we recovered him right away. No overnight stuff. We took the straps and hams off of him.  Bear, it's not "the other white meat" it is the only purple meat!

Don't know how I missed this thread last summer. I sure do like those Razorcap heads. Laura and I have had extremely good luck with them. Depending on the vegetation we see most animals we kill with them go down in sight...including a moose that only made three steps and went down.  Thanks for the story.

Here are a couple of pics of the blood trail left by the bear I took last August up in Maine with Hunters Point Guide Service. We literally could run and trail the bear. It was a thru and thru shot low in the lungs and just over the heart with a RC...blood pouring out both sides.

Thanks Terry. I haven't seen this one in quite a while! The rug is right next to my bed. I have to lay it down with the head facing the back wall. It only takes stubbing your toes into the teeth in the middle of the night once  to wise you up!!!

congrats on the bear. I have been lucky enough to take two and both with trad gear. the pucker factor is quite real. I shot mine just before dark from my treestand. was dark by the time i climbed down and went over to it. I checked it to make sure it was done even though i knew it was. I leaned my bow against a tree and went to step around the bear to flip & gut it. Well, my foot hit its leg and the bear moved. I jumped about 20 feet in the air. That is part of what makes them so much fun.
