Ever wanted to.......

not like a bow?

I recently enquired aboutthe quality of Jerry Hill longbows. A fair few *ahem* constructive comments later, I decided not to bother getting one. However, I had the bow in question, a 69" 73# Elite Plus, given. Free.

I really did have reservations about this bow. I'm happy with the weight, but I'd been warned about the handshock. Now I'm used to English longbows & if you've ever shot one, you'll really know what handshock is, so the Hill came as a pleasant surprise. Yes, it still feels like I'm being kicked in the elbow, but not half as bad as I expected.

I really though that this would be a wall-hanger, but after a few sots (well, a couple of hundred now!) I realised that I'm shooting this bow far, far better than my 60" Pronghorn of the same weight. I only use the Pronghorn for 3Ds and field shoots & it's won me a lot of trophies. It's a beaut to shoot. No shock, smooth as butter & really flings an 11/32 Pine shaft. After shooting the Hill, I find that I'm dissapointed in the accuracy of the Pronghorn & as much as the Hill is uncomfortable, (the grip was designed by a person with no hands, I'm sure!) kicks like a mule & is far too long, I can't put the darned thing down!

What's a guy to do??? Do I sell the Pronghorn & keep the Hill for 3Ds? Do I give away the Hill & practice more with the Pronghorn? Do I scrap 'em both & try one of the other 11, lighter bows in the rack  :D ?

While I'm on the subject...all of a sudden I can shoot better with a tab than a glove!!!!! Now that's NEVER happened before! I like my glove! It's convenient, easy to carry & wear, comfortable, nicely broken-in & fits perfectly. The tab is just a no-name, spacer type tab thatcae free with the bow. It's uncomfortable, doesn't fit well & I'm bound to leave it on top of a target somewhere but, once again, I can shoot great with it!! WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME!!!

Just proves the value of opinion. That is why everyone doesn't shoot the same bow.

Before you get rid of the Proghorn though give yourself a couple months to make sure you aren't experiencing, NEW BOW SYNDROME-The ability to shoot any new bow better than anything for up to two months or the first arrow of hunting season, whichever comes first.

I think R H Clark may be on to something Rob. Or it could be the longer bow is more forgiving... that would have been Howard's answer.  ;)

As far as the tab/glove thing... I used to go through that very thing. I'd get stale with one and switch. My shooting would improve dramatically.

I've not switched in years now and have settled on the American Leathers Big Shot glove. My old finger need the extra protection these days.

Sounds like the more uncomfortable you get, the better you shoot Rob. Maybe you should try wearing just one shoe and an eye patch and see what happens. Maybe we'll start calling you Robtathood!    :biglaugh:

When your fingers start going numb from carpal tunnel from your longbows, at least you will still be able to shoot a recurve.    :bigsmyl:

Yeah that's it! Give the Hill to me and practice more with the Pronghorn.

Rob - I kind of agree with R H Clark. I've done the same thing only to find out a month later it wasn't as good as it seemed!

One lesson I have learned, I never get rid of a bow anymore. They don't eat much, won't spoil and can just hang around forever. You never know when you might need it.......

Good Luck!

No, no, no. You've got it backwards. You give me the Pronghorn and keep the Hill. Since you're shooting the Hill so much better, you might as well get rid of that ol' Pronghorn.  ;)
