Mohawks are fine bows and shoot great. I can say nothing bad about them...but once your bitten by the "Hill" bug there is no hope. I got a few bows and shoot them a lot but the Big 5 I have is all I care to shoot anymore.I`ll go out on a limb and say that its gonna be the death of some critters before the years out Lord Willing.RC

Never had a Mohawk in my hands but they look similar to the old Quillian Bamboo Longhunter. If so it should be a good shooter. I may have to try one and see.

I have often heard guys say that a Hill bow is a "real" longbow. The fact is that Howard Hill experimented with bow design regularly. Who knows what he might have come up with if he was alive today. There are longbows today that out perform the standard Hill designs. That takes nothing away from Hill style bows, which I like very much, but they are not the end all, be all of longbows.

Ghost Dog I have to agree with you but I haven't found another style bow that makes me feel the way a Hill does when I am carrying it into the woods.

Dawg,
I agree with what you have said. If we look at this Hill phenomenon with eyes of "if" (design, materials, experimentation, etc) one would easily conclude that the Hill design is, in fact not the "end all - be all" of longbows.

What Mudd has said and I concur, is that the Hill bows as they "were" and Howard Hill as he "was" and what the Schultzs' of history "did" take a few of us beyond all reason to a point of passion.

For me it started a long time ago and, thanks to the "hill" guys here on TG (Especially Rob D, Nate S, Spanky, David Mitchell, etc) and the woppin' big thread of recent weeks I have felt that feelin' that I lost too many years ago.  I have learned new things about the old things...it is a blast from the past...literally.

I'll never let it slip again...but that is just me.

'hawks are NOTHING like dan's bows, not even close.  i've owned and used more than a few quillian's, and mohawks are much smoother on the draw and more stable on the release, for the very most part.

'hawks and hill are simple flatbows.  the main difference 'tween the two is the limb wiggle, or lack thereof.  that snaking is what allows for a much shorter length 'hawk as opposed to the longer length required for a hill of the same draw length, and why the 'hawk is simply a "higher performing" longbow (meaning, faster arrow speeds with good "stability").  each of these bow designs have their strong points, but they are quite different in the hands, on the draw, and definitely on the release.  choose both and have the best of all worlds.

Rob it's been many years since I had the longhunter. IF I remember right the design looks SIMILAR . The Longhunter was smooth and fast, ff strings were kinda new back then.
If the Mohawk is that much better I may need one as my "last long bow" how would it rate against the Black Widow LAG?

Mohawks have been in high demand lately and I know his wait time had been increasing.
My guess is that Vince is doing the wise thing and getting caught up and hopefully taking a well-deserved breather and getting some "me time".

Eric.

Duker, way to go, my friend.  I'm 67 and hope to keep the fire burning for a long time.  As I get older, I may at some point have to drop down some inweight, that just means one thing.....I can get more bows!  :D  There will no doubt one day be a "last bow" but I won't know it.  My end of bow collecting will come as a surprise!

Comparing a Mohawk to a Black Widow is similar to comparing a Mohawk to a Hill; it's just a different animal.  The BW and Tomahawk type bows are highly R/D'd bows and, in my opinion, probably the optimum in terms of speed and quietness.  To me though, they just don't have the visual appeal of classic "D" shape of a strung Hill or Hawk.

No they don't but they [ the BW I have] shoot really well. Buuuut since buying my Hill's i dont shoot that BW much anymore and have sold all but one of my recurves. That's why the Mohawk will be my next "last" puchase.
3 Hlll's
1 BW
1 old Bear Kodiak
1 Mohawk

should be enough
