Danon Howatt Recurve Spec's.
« on: March 22, 2011, 10:32:00 PM »
i appreciate all the info from you fellas.
i guess i was to busy rambling and forgot to put the info down on the Danon Howatt Recurve i mentioned its a 55# @ 28" -  HH 3199 - AMO 62" - Hunter. i have the info and specs for making the Bow String. i have made two strings for my Sequoia Long Bow and i also made one for my grandson's 1950's or 1960's fiberglass recurve. i don't remember exactly but i think it was a Fred Bear i could be wrong i'm not sure if Fred Bear made fiberglass bows.
it reminds me of a bow that my cousins had back when i was about 5-6 years old and that would have been in 1965-1966.
i am open to all suggestions though as it is that i am new to traditional bows.
my youngest son had a compound bow and it was really nice and nice to shoot. But i really like the feel of the traditional bow and i'm doing what i can to learn Instinctive Shooting. "No Peeps" i do pretty well at 10-15 feet i want to stretch that further out but i'm trying to adjust my Grip. i did great at first not to slap my forearm because my bow was straight up and down. but at 30-40ft i was all over the target and seldom on my mark. i have tweeked it a little to the right at about 15 Degrees and im right on it every time at 10-15 feet but now i get that string slap mainly because when i release the string my bow hand seems to pull in which causes the string to slap my arm. i would really like some tips from anyone who would be willing to put me one the right path.
and again thanks for all the good info on my previous posted questions for my sons recurve.

3Feather,

I'm new at this, but I don't think your hand should be pulling in at release.  You should try to keep your bow arm and grip pretty solid and stable through release.  Now, there may be another reason for string slap, but it shouldn't be from that. If you are canting the bow I believe you should be keeping a fixed wrist and rotating your whole forearm not twisting only your wrist, which could be causing more string slap when you cant.

Just some thoughts from another newbie, so take em with some grains of salt.
