Things Kids Say...LOL
« on: March 27, 2011, 11:09:00 AM »
Was out at the club yesterday shootin with my two sons and a couple of the other trad guys, actually we out numbered the compound guys yesterday the -10 temp keeps a lot of them away for some reason. Well we got stuck behind a group of four compound guys and they are trying some shots through narrow lanes and you hear arrows banging away through the brush my 7 year old turns around rolls his eyes and says" huh compound boys" well holy crap the group we were with almost killed themselves laughing. Lucas is now known as CB for compound boys! We had a great time and the woodstove in the cookshed sure felt good. Did 5 rounds of 20 targets all together, must have shot over 300 arrows, got some great tips on form from our resident trad guru which helped a lot. A review on best shots of the day, my youngest hit a guys knock off which he thought was real funny, my older son hit the back of one target bounced of and 10 ringed one behind and to the left and I X'd a deer on a 50y downhill shot! What a great day and did we ever sleep good last night!

When my son was around 8 or 9 years old we gave him his first longbow after he had been shooting a compound for a year or so.....about the same time, he wanted the training wheels off his first bike......at the local club we belonged to, one of the guys asked him where his bow was and without losing a beat he said it was time to loose those "training wheels".....that was 17 years ago and he has never looked back.....

I took my six year old for his first chance to draw blood and wasn't out 2 minutes until a cottontail ran out a stopped broadside about 10-15yards out.  He stood there still and quite until I whispered "stick him Bub."  He drew back-pretty good form-and let fly.  He missed about three feet.  After a pause he turned to me and said I only missed him that much Dad-making a 1/2 inch sign with his thumb and index finger.  I held back a laugh and faked a serious face and said yeah son I saw that.  Its like I told his Mom when we got home-she said did he and I said this is his story not mine.  One thing for sure he is more serious about bowing now.

I am so proud you all you guys!!

Remember... play nice!

Just because they use different equipment it doesn't make them bad people just slower at getting through the course..lol

God bless,Mudd

Joe, that's a great comment from your son!  I can just picture my grandson saying the same thing!  Sometimes, things are just taken too seriously!

I'd been after a big old bear here in the mountains ever since seasoned opened.  Had trail cam shots, lots of sign,paths,scat,etc.... This bear always was eluding me, think he was smelling me. The nights I didn't hunt the trailcam would get pictures of him on the path. My then 5 year old daughter heard me discussing my frustrations with a friend, when she said "dad, don't bears hibernate?". I said "yes", she said "why don't you just wait till he's hibernating and shoot him in his sleep?" LOL! Smart yet ruthless 5 year old girl I have, huh!

Hey Mudd we get along with all of them it was just the timing. I will add to the story. Four of us Trad guys where shooting from the compound stakes a little earlier in the day and doing pretty good at hitting foam on all our shots. One of the compound guys came around the corner and said" that's a funny sound" one of our guys said what? Compound shooter said " the sound of foam being hit after a recurve goes off" hahaha, equally funny. All the guys who shoot at the club are all in all a good group of guys who just like to shoot, Tournaments they get pretty serious but otherwise just have fun.

Things kids say. It was quite a few years ago on one of the trad sites (don't remember which one). This one shooter brought his son who was 4 or 5 then.

As they were shooting one of the guys would shoot and fart. Next thing the little fella started to imitate shooting a bow with the noise of the arrow and also make a farting sound.

After a couple targets his father pulled him aside and said you can't do that, for which the his son looked at him and said, how would you like it walking around and him farting in your face all day. He said they all laugh so hard they had a hard time shooting the rest of the course.

My wife and I laugh so hard we cried. You never know what kids will say.

I bought my boys each a youth size Maddog longbow for Christmas a few years ago.  We were visiting stateside in Alaska and since it was too cold to shoot outside we made our first trip to a local indoor 3d range.

Little did we know that on that night they were holding the youth tournament, complete with trophies.  We strangers showed up, and my boys had the only trad bows there.  The guy in charge said they could shoot along with the others in the tournament.  They had a ball shooting at 3d targets for the first time, and to boot, my oldest soon took home the first place trophy!
