I just ordered one 3 weeks ago. I happen to live within 40 miles of his shop and drive through Nashville all the time so I stopped in twice and shot every bow on his shelf and spent a couple hours talking about design and differences between the models that he sells. In the end, I ordered a Critter Gitter with the jack knife takedown system. Rosewood riser and dark elm limbs. Jerry was super patient and did not mind answering questions and giving advice. You will not find a bowyer with more experience and knowledge of bows than Jerry.

when you say broomhanlde grip, does that refer to all the models from great northern or just this model?

If you have a look at their website you will see the different handles they can do. I have two GN bow a Critter gitter sp 56in 58lb at 28in and a Fireball 62in 52lb at 28in both have the jack knife handles and they shoot sweeeeeeeeeet.

from what i'm gathering, this particular model is a bit slower than the bushbow and the critter getter, these seem to be the fav's from this maker.  i'm hearing that it is significantly slower as well.  i believe i'll pass on this as i would like to be able to get my money back out of this bow if we're not a good match, and with those characteristics it looks like that could be challenging.

The Traditional is not significantly slower than the Bushbow or Critter Gitter.  Usually a bit slower but by no means significant.  All are significantly slower than the Ghost!

Speed is only one little piece of choosing the right tradbow, especially for hunting.  It really comes down to what you like and don't like.  The different designs have different drawing and shooting characteristics.  Every bow out there is somebody's favorite for one reason or another.   You're just gonna have to pick a bow that appeals to you and try it out.

the jack knife is the coolest take-down system out there.  I can fold it in half, put it in my backpack and ride down the trails on my mountain bike and be ready to shoot in less than a minute.
